Megger MFT1735 Multifunction Tester
The Megger MFT1735 is very similar to the Megger MFT1730, but with additional earth resistance testing capabilities. It is important to note that the following features included on the MFT1720 and the MFT1730 are not included on this model:
- Loop impedance ‘Z-max’ function (automatically stores highest loop impedance result)
- Loop impedance ‘Z-ref’ function (stores Ze measurement for automatic R1+R2 calculation)
The loss of the above will not cause any headaches for those in the market for a multifunction tester of this calibre, as these are functions designed primarily for marketing purposes.
There are various methods of earth resistance testing depending on what earth system you will be working on. Some installations cannot physically be disconnected and as such, current and voltage need to be inducted into the circuit in order for a resistance measurement to be taken. This is referred to as ‘stakeless testing’.
Out of the box, the MFT1735 comes supplied with a three-wire earth test lead set with spikes that will satisfy two and three pole testing. The stakeless testing method and the attached rod technique (ART) require the additional purchase of both a Megger ‘IClamp’ and ‘VClamp’. These additions will unlock the potential of a high specification earth tester suitable for measuring earth arrangements found in lightning protection, utility pole earth and CATV systems to name a few.
Is The MFT1735 Right For Me?
The MFT1735 is an incredibly versatile instrument and represents Megger's most comprehensive multifunction tester. It is suitable for any 17th edition electrician as well as utility engineers where BS7671:2008; Amendment 3 2015 (17th edition) will not apply.
