Like its little brother the TG54, the FLIR TG56 Spot IR Thermometer’s main advantage over other infrared thermometers is its impressive distance-to-spot ratio which allows the user to remotely measure the temperature of an out-of-reach object. In the case of the TG56, this ratio is 30:1 which means that the user can take readings from inaccessible objects as well as staying at a safe distance from extremely hot surfaces. Lasers highlight the exact location of the reading for increased accuracy. The readings are precise to 0.1℃ and accurate to 1℃ / 1% whilst the measurement range goes from -30℃ to +650℃.

In addition to the infrared sensor, the TG56 comes with a general-purpose Type K thermocouple for taking invasive measurements and performing more detailed inspections. The user-friendly interface is clearly displayed on a colour LCD screen and the user has the choice of 4 pre-set emissivity settings as well as a custom option. Furthermore, the current reading can be displayed simultaneously alongside the two most recent measurements at the push of a button. A bright work light is included for working in darkness whilst audio and visual alarms can be set to sound when temperatures fall outside set parameters.

The TG56 is a small, lightweight device with an 8 hour battery life that is perfect for carrying around and performing multiple inspections through the day. The auto power-off function also helps save the batteries. It’s rugged build-quality means it can be dropped from 3m without permanent damage and the user also benefits from a 5-year warranty for further peace of mind.
