Megger MIT417/2 Cat IV Insulation Tester

The Megger MIT417/2 Cat IV Insulation Tester is a versatile, safe insulation tester that is suitable for industrial and electrical uses in addition to electrical installations, cable testing, motor testing, automotive work, ESD, panel building, avionics and other maintenance.

Concerning the Megger MIT417/2’s insulation testing capabilities, the most important upgrade from previous models is the maximum over voltage for testing is now just 2% rather than 10-20% so tests are more accurate and risk less damage. The user gets the choice of feedback-controlled test voltages of 10V, 25V, 50V, 100V, 250V, 500V or 1000V so it is suitable for a wide range of testing, including for specialised uses in aviation, telecommunications and voltage-sensitive electrical installations. The device also boasts polarisation index (PI) and dielectric absorption ratio (DAR) functions to provide a more complete picture. The display shows test voltage, insulation readings and a dynamic ‘analogue’ arc as well as a clear pass/fail indication which gives a quick, complete picture.

The device’s category IV safety rating up to 600V gives the user confidence when using the Megger MIT417/2 and further peace of mind is provided by the automatic voltage detection which prevents any testing when voltage is present over a certain limit, thus avoiding damage and risk. Furthermore, the buzzer alarm will sound should insulation resistance exceed certain limits.

Continuity testing can also be carried out with the Megger MIT417/2 thank to options of 200mA and 20mA test currents that provide versatility and help save the battery. Unlike previous models, the resistance range now goes continuously from 0.01Ω to 1MΩ, simplifying operation and making results clearer. The buzzer alarm can be set to sound if resistance goes above a user-adjusted level.

True RMS voltage measurement with frequency readings is another handy feature of the Megger MIT417/2 and allows the user to measure voltage up to 600V AC/DC at the same time as performing an insulation or continuity inspection.
