Megger S1-568 5kV Insulation Resistance Tester

The Megger S1-Series of high voltage insulation resistance testers comprises of three models offering 5, 10 and 15kV outputs; the S1-568, S1-1068 and the S1-1568 respectively. All of these instruments are targeted for operation in power generation, distribution and transmission industries.

The Megger S1-568 is the first instrument within the range boasting a DC voltage output between 250V and 5kV, producing a resistance measurement of up to 15 TΩ.

Exceptional electrical noise rejection (up to 8mA) in addition to a Bluetooth output and the ability to control the unit remotely via an isolated USB port, make the Megger S1-568 the ideal 5kV insulation resistance tester to be used within electrically hostile environments such as:

  • Atmospheres prone to electrical arcing
  • HV Switchgear environments
  • Areas prone to HV static discharge
  • Areas prone to lightning strike, i.e., lightning conductors

Moreover, the S1-568 offers the electrical engineer the ability to conduct timed testing,  polarisation index (PI), dielectric absorption ratio (DAR), step voltage, dielectric discharge and ramp testing.

Test results can be stored within an advanced internal memory complete with time/date stamping. Results can be recalled by at a later date for analysis on screen, as the internal memory allows for an impressive eleven hours of measurements taken at five second intervals.  Measured values can also be viewed in ‘live-time’ should the S1-568 be connected to a PC/Laptop via USB running the supplied Megger PowerDB Lite software package, or simply downloaded for analysis.

Straightforward operation is ensured with two rotary switches and a large, back-lit display which enables resistance, voltage, leakage current, capacitance, battery level and test time to be displayed simultaneously.

To comply with the harsh environments that the S1-568 is designed to be operated in, the unit features a dual case design which protects the unit from knocks and drops, but it is also fire retardant. When the instrument lid is closed, the seal also offers moisture and dust ingress protection rated to IP65.

Why Test for insulation Resistance?

Electrical insulation can be affected over time by temperature, current flow, physical damage, chemical damage and environmental conditions to name a few. Both the reliability and the safety of an electrical installation can become an unwanted issue should insulation resistance values not be tested regularly and monitored.
