The Martindale HandyPAT range - consisting of the HandyPAT 500 and HandyPAT 600 with numerous kit options - has been designed with the requirements of offices and schools in mind. Both instruments are excellent low-cost options for anyone performing occasional, low-volume PAT testing thanks to their full set of test functions, user-friendly operation and portable design.

The Martindale HandyPAT 500 can perform earth bond testing, insulation testing, and fuse testing on in-service electrical appliances and extension leads. The 200mA test current for earth continuity is ideal for IT equipment and allows the PAT tester to indicate resistance up to 19.99Ω. The insulation test, meanwhile, uses a 500V DC test voltage to check insulation resistance up to 200MΩ. The HandyPAT 600 has all these features plus the option of 250V insulation testing which is useful for testing sensitive IT equipment and surge-protected extension leads as it will not trip the surge protection. The tester also has a polarity check function.

After a test is carried out, both HandyPAT models will provide a PASS/FAIL indication on screen alongside numeric readings for earth bond continuity and insulation resistance and correct/incorrect polarity or wiring. The HandyPAT 600 provides the user with the option of adjusting the PASS/FAIL limits to allow speedier testing on items such as long extension leads, heating appliances and handheld objects which may all be required to meet different limits in order to be declared safe according to the IET Code of Practice 4th Edition.

Automatic, one-button test sequences on each PAT tester make it extremely easy to perform comprehensive testing on Class I and Class II appliances as well as extension leads. Everything is performed through clearly labelled push buttons and the HandyPAT 600 has enough space for up to 200 results in its internal memory that can then be recalled to the screen. Each tester weighs just 0.7kg and is extremely practical thanks to its small dimensions.

The Martindale HandyPAT 500 and HandyPAT 600 are both available in a range of kits complete with accessories such as labels, 110V adaptors for appliances and extension leads, IEC adaptors, PAT register books, and database software.

As standalone instruments, the Martindale HandyPAT 500 and 600 are available from Test-Meter.co.uk for just £269 and £299 respectively. With practicality and usability at their core, both PAT testers are really useful options for making sure all electrical appliances are safe in accordance with the IET Code of Practice 4th Edition.
