FLIR CM57 Flexible Clamp Meter

The FLIR CM57 Flexible Clamp Meter is a highly practical meter from FLIR that is great for measuring AC current. The most prominent feature of the device is its 45cm flexible coil clamp which can filter through tight gaps and crowded cabinets to reach wiring that is inaccessible to hard-jaw clamp meters. The longer coil makes the device suitable for larger and/or multiple conductor readings and double wrap, whilst it also gives the device deep access into crowded spaces.

AC current can be measured over three ranges, the largest of which is 3000A, to a high degree of accuracy (±3%) and precision. Furthermore, True RMS measurement ensures that the readings are representative whilst Inrush mode can capture AC current spikes during equipment start up. With the ability to store 20,000 records and take readings every minute, the CM57 is also ideal for monitoring AC current over a drawn out period.

On a practical level, bright LED work lights overcome shadows and aid work in poor light whilst the backlit LCD screen ensures readings are clear and visible. A special feature of the clamp meter is its Bluetooth connectivity. This allows the user to upload results to iOS and Android smartphones via the free FLIR Mobile Tools App for later analysis. Several meters can connect at once so results for multi-phase systems can be viewed on a smartphone up to 10m away, a distance which also aids safety. The high safety ratings of Cat IV up to 600V and Cat III 1000V mean that the user can have confidence in the CM57.

FLIR’s excellent build quality means that the CM57 is built to withstand a 3m drop and the firm also offers a limited lifetime warranty when the product is registered within 60 days of purchase.
