FLIR E53 Thermal Imaging Camera

The FLIR E53 Thermal Imaging Camera is an ideal instrument for spotting hot spots, cold spots or other thermal indications of a developing fault within structures, machinery or electrical circuits. It has a 240 x 180 pixel thermal sensor which measures temperature from -20˚C to 650˚C with ±2˚C/2% accuracy. Thermal sensitivity is 30mK so temperature variations of just 0.03˚C can be depicted on screen. The camera has a 53˚ x 41˚ field of view allowing the user to scan a large area quickly and this is facilitated by the 24˚ supplied lens. The laser-assisted auto-focus function helps maintain a razor-sharp image even in crowded surroundings and there is a 4x continuous digital zoom function.

Vibrant MSX Thermal Imaging

The vibrant 4” touch screen of the FLIR E53 has a range of six colour palettes and a 160˚ viewing angle so it is ideal for awkward inspections. The user can view thermal and visual images on screen thanks to an integrated 5MP digital camera that enables improved MSX image enhancement where visual details are combined with the thermal image. Bluetooth communication allows the camera to work with appropriate measuring instruments to combine thermal images with quantitative data.

Other display options include picture-in-picture, hot/cold spots, centre spots and on-screen laser distance measurement. The user can set a range of colour Isotherm alarms for various temperature limits as well as moisture and insulation. The FLIR E53’s intuitive menu system means it is easy to operate in order to make the most of the impressive thermal capabilities.

Images and radiometric video can be saved to the supplied 8GB memory card. Files can then be downloaded by removing the SD card, using a USB cable, or communicating wirelessly over Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi connectivity also allows the user to stream live radiometric video. Once files are downloaded to a PC, they can be further enhanced using FLIR UltraMax software.

Arrives Ready to Use

The FLIR E53 has a 2.5-hour battery life and weighs just 1kg so it is extremely practical for use over large sites. It comes supplied with a range of accessories including a battery charger, lens, light protection, hand & wrist straps, lanyards, lens caps, an 8GB SD card, a Torx screwdriver and various communication cables. The camera benefits from FLIR’s comprehensive 2-10 year warranty.

Thermal Imaging for Detecting Elevated Body Temperature

While unable to detect a virus or infection, thermal imaging cameras can be used to detect Elevated Body Temperature. FLIR thermal cameras have been used in public spaces - such as airports, train terminals, businesses, factories and concerts - as an effective tool to measure skin surface temperature and identify individuals with Elevated Body Temperature (EBT).

If the temperature of the skin in key areas (especially the corner of the eye and forehead) is above average temperature, then the individual may be selected for additional screening. Identifying individuals with EBT, who should then be further screened with virus-specific diagnostic tests, can help reduce or dramatically slow the spread of viruses and infections.

Using thermal cameras, officials can be more discrete, efficient and effective in identifying individuals that need further screening with virus-specific tests. A variety of institutions, including transportation agencies, businesses, factories and first responders are using thermal screening as an EBT detection method and as part of employee health and screening (EH&S).

Airports in particular are actively employing FLIR thermal cameras as part of their screening measures for passengers and flight crews. The screening procedures implemented at airports and in other public places are just the first step when it comes to detecting a possible infection. It's a quick way to screen for anyone who might be sick, and must always be followed up with further screening before authorities decide to quarantine a person.
