Fluke 117 True RMS Multimeter

The Fluke 117 True RMS Multimeter is a sophisticated multimeter with a large range of functions that would be ideal for the professional electrician. It can take readings for AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, resistance, frequency, and capacitance as well as carrying out continuity and diode tests. A millivolt range allows the instrument to accurately evaluate low-powered circuits whilst low input impedance (LoZ) prevents problems related to ghost voltage. The sizeable measurement ranges and excellent accuracy - in part thanks to True RMS - make it a very useful instrument and the user also benefits from several additional features.

Readings from the Fluke 117 are displayed on the backlit digital screen as individual figures and in the form of a bar-graph. There is also an option for min/max/avg recording to give a comprehensive picture of a system’s outputs in any given parameter. Data hold allows a value to be frozen on screen and there is a visual warning of dangerous voltage. The 117’s non-contact VoltAlert voltage detection enhances safety as the user is made aware of the presence of voltage before making any contact with the circuits.

The Fluke 117 has automatic ranging which immediately selects the appropriate measurement range and resolution although the user can manually override the automatic selection if need be. Another useful time-saving feature is AutoVolt which detects whether voltage is AC or DC.

The VoltAlert non-contact voltage detection is supplemented by the Fluke 117’s impressive Cat III safety rating up to 600V and it is approved by all relevant bodies so the user can have confidence when operating the instrument. It comes supplied with a battery and a set of Fluke test leads and constitutes a superb instrument for capturing data for all manner of electrical variables.
