The ITC Introduction to Thermography Training Courses are full one-day courses, educating beginners in thermography and providing hands-on experience with a thermal camera. Separate courses are available with a further focus on building or electrical thermography.

The courses which include the basics of thermography, emissivity and reflected apparent temperature also feature an introduction to electrical and industrial inspections, camera handling, software installation and testing.

Offering around 2 hours of camera hands-on experience, attendees will examine various different materials with an overview of report writing software.

The ITC One-Day course is suitable for all beginners to thermography, electricians, plumbers and any owner of an entry-level thermal camera. The only entry requirement is a basic technical understanding of thermography and infrared camera operation

CAT I training courses are designed for those new to infrared cameras, focusing on how thermography is used for a

variety of condition monitoring and predictive maintenance applications.

 

CAT I Course Outline

  • Applications including electrical, mechanical, building, medical and R&D.
  • Explanation of camera operation and how the camera converts radiation into an image.
  • Heat and measurement, contact versus non-contact temperature measurement.
  • How radiation is converted into temperature and an introduction to heat transfer.
  • Theory relating to conduction, convection, radiation, blackbodies, transmission emissivity, reflectivity & calibration.
  • Atmospheric & environmental considerations including distance, humidity, air temp and reflected apparent temperature.
  • Temperature definition and measurement, thermodynamics, heat and temperature, heat transfer, conduction, convection and radiation.
  • A look at cross hair measurement, area box/circle, colour alarms and specific dew point and insulation alarms.
  • Camera practice using portable simulated labs, integration of images with reporting software and creation of reports.
  • Optional multiple choice BINDT certification exam.

The ITC Category 1 Infrared Thermography Training Course is suitable for beginners, thermal camera users who wish to become professional thermographers, electrical & mechanical predictive maintenance teams, building diagnostics professionals and of course electricians & plumbers. As an entry requirement attendees must be familiar with basic thermal imaging camera operation and have experience within thermography.

As a Category 2 Thermographer you will provide guidance to category 1 personnel in the areas of equipment selection, techniques, limitations, data analysis, corrective actions and reporting.

 

CAT 2 Course Outline

  • Reinforce concepts from the Category 1 Course.
  • Heat Transfer Theory, convection, conduction and radiation.
  • Blackbodies, emissivity & scientific laws
  • Optical filters, optical materials, anti-reflective coatings.
  • Atmospheric transmission and attenuation.
  • Detector technologies and calibration.
  • Details of different thermal imaging camera parameters including, NETD, IFOV, MFOV
  • IR window measurement formulae, spectral transmittance of different materials.
  • Transient Thermographic methods analysed.
  • Experience the latest in infrared inspection report generation and database software.

The ITC Category 2 Infrared Thermography Training Course is built for those already in possession of a Category 1 certificate and professional thermographers looking to increase their knowledge of IR thermography. Entry requires a valid CAT 1 thermography certificate and a prepared case study to be presented at the CAT 2 course & submitted at the close of the course.

CAT 2 training courses are for those who have already achieved a Category 1 qualification to advance their knowledge of infrared physics, thermal science, thermal cameras and IR theory. As a Category 2 Thermographer you will provide guidance to category 1 personnel in the areas of equipment selection, techniques, limitations, data analysis, corrective actions and reporting. In order to attend this 5 day course you must already hold a level 1/catergory 1 Thermography certification as well as being required to prepare a case study.

The ITC Category 3 Infrared Thermography Training Course is designed for thermographers with a Category 2 certificate and professionals looking to increase their knowledge of IR thermography. To be eligible for entry you must have a CAT 2 thermography course completion certificate.

ITC’s Category III certification training teaches thermographers how to establish and manage a successful thermography program across a variety of applications and industries.

Content includes instruction on how to establish inspection procedures, apply industry-specific standards, manage training and certification needs, budget for equipment purchases and implement safety protocols.

Participants will also learn how to develop an equipment list, establish severity criteria, set repair priorities, and determine IR survey frequencies; all critical elements of a successful inspection program.
