Megger (Programma) MOM600A Micro-Ohmmeter
The Megger (Programma) MOM600A micro-ohmmeter is a world-renowned ductor, suitably designed for use in harsh environments like the Arctic and the tropics. Able to output DC currents up to 600A for up to 15 seconds, the MOM600A is appropriate to check that high voltage, high load electrical joints have a compliant low resistance value.
Excessive contact resistance across electrical joints and switch/isolator contacts frequently causes HV switchgear failure. With electrical distribution networks carrying heavier loads than ever, it is important for engineers and utility companies to check contact resistances at regular intervals to minimise the risk of power failure and undue downtime due to mechanical repair.
Available as both 115V and 230V models and with or without test leads and transport case (please select the correct model from the drop down list above), the Megger MOM600A is very convenient for transporting between electrical substations and industrial environments.
Why test resistance at such a low value?
If the contact resistance on a high current electrical joint is too high, temperature rises and power loss are inevitable leading to a host of problems such as overheating joints and electrical equipment failure. The following table demonstrates the importance of low resistance joins within high current applications:
