Metrel MI3152 Eurotest XC Multifunction Tester

The MI3152 Eurotest XC is a high specification installation tester featuring a large high resolution, colour touch screen user interface.

Testing with the MI3152 can be as exclusive as conducting a one-off diagnostic  test, or as inclusive as programming the instrument with specific test sequences. As such, the unit caters for the ‘Part-P’ registered domestic electrical  installer completing an occasional minor works or installation certificate for example, or perhaps a seasoned electrical inspector/engineer conducting frequent electrical installation condition reports.

With built in help screens and BS7671:2008 amendment 3 fuse tables governing a pass/fail indication for loop test measurements, the Metrel MI3152 is a quick and user friendly instrument suitable for all scopes of electrical contractor.

The Metrel A1532 EVSE Charging Point Adaptor allows Metrel MFTs to test the safety and functionality of an electric vehicle charging point under live conditions without having to disassemble the charging point. It works by allowing the tester to simulate the load of a vehicle attached to the point in various states. With the Metrel MI3152, an auto test sequence allows testing for safety and functionality across all charging states at the push of a button. It can be added by clicking the checkbox above.

Review by Jody (Posted on 16/12/2017)
    Overall
So it’s a touch screen multifunction tester in a soft case.
It certainly does the job, and with a few attachments it’s very adaptable. It’s also expensive. (I’d suggest buying the Std. Kit rather than entry like i did as a plug commander will set you back about £130 alone)

It’s high end. It feels good in use. I can’t say it was any ‘giant leap’ in terms of testing, but I can say it’s a good leap towards being able to clearly see ALL results.
I think I’d like the front screen terminology updated.
‘Iso’ as Insulation Resistance Test I only knew R-iso because of German PV manuals. It’s not really day to day wording. But that very minor moans.
Also, if I want to be picky, sometimes setting parameters for tests feel a bit long winded. Now that, again, is me being a bit of a dick, because this tester can get you set up for such specifics, that you know the test you’re running will be bang on perfect every single time.
I used to like spinning a dial, swapping a cable and whacking test button without thinking, but this is a thinking mans tool. - so I shouldn’t even mention it. - it’s doing exactly what you want it to.
And then just hit ‘memory’ and you’re covered.

It’s help system is great. If you’re not quite sure how to link up for a test... it’s got it all diagramed out for you on screen.

I love it, but I know it’s not for all sparks.

Metrel have really opened up the game for what testers should be. This is the next gen now.
I’d expect little incremental software updates or even as it has Bluetooth maybe an app link to smartphone... deals with folks like iCertifi etc. I don’t know. This is the first smart tester and I hope they give it some love and support for a good while.
It ‘might’ be the game changer for testing equipment.

I’m very happy with it. It’s super clever. Clean layout. Great result sets (very comprehensive) and although price might be prohibitive to some. I say, if you’ve got it, you’ve got it cause you’re good enough to justify it.

But I would say that wouldn’t I? I’ve got one.
