Seaward SS200LR Solar Irradiance Meter

The Seaward SS200LR Solar Irradiance Meter is a robust handheld instrument made for solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal professionals who need to carry out accurate and reliable on-site solar surveys. It is exclusively designed for seamless use with the Seaward PV1525 Solar PV Tester.

The SS200LR combines multiple essential measurement functions for system design, commissioning and certification, which helps installers and engineers to confidently confirm optimal installation conditions. It uses a photovoltaic reference cell to measure solar irradiance and delivers highly accurate and repeatable readings in W/m² or BTU/hr-ft².

In addition to irradiance measurement, the SS200LR comes with a built-in inclinometer to calculate the roof pitch, a compass to identify roof orientation, along with integrated thermometers to measure ambient air temperature and PV module temperature. These features make it an invaluable all-in-one survey tool that reduces the need to have multiple instruments on site.

The SS200LR introduces a wireless connectivity of up to 150 metres thanks to the Seaward PV1525 Solar PV Tester, allowing real-time transmission of irradiance, ambient, and module temperature data during electrical testing. This wireless testing adheres to IEC 62446 standards, ensuring that all required environmental data is captured alongside electrical test results. The combined dataset can then be loaded straight into SolarCert software to allow seamless report generation, system documentation and certification.

A built-in data logging function with a USB interface allows for longer-term site evaluation where users can record irradiance and temperature values at defined intervals over periods ranging from hours to days. This makes it ideal for assessing site conditions or monitoring system performance over time, with the logged data easily downloaded to a PC for further analysis. Its durable design, advanced connectivity, and enhanced functionality make it a key component of Seaward’s next-generation solar testing platform.
