17th Edition Safe Isolation Kit

Electrical safety is paramount when performing 17th Edition and Part P inspections and testing on electrical installations. With this safe isolation kit you can be assured that the electrical circuit you are working on has been correctly and safely isolated by using this comprehensive range of lockout tools. The voltage indicator provides a safe indication of the circuit voltage rating while the proving device should be used before and after using the voltage tester to prove that it is operating correctly and accurately.

The selection of professional lockout devices provided with this kit ensures the safe isolation of an electrical circuit so that 17th Edition and Part P installation and testing can be carried out without the risk of electric shocks. These universal lock off tools will fit any circuit breaker and can be simply set up in a matter of seconds.

Our 17th Edition Safe Isolation Kit fully complies to GS38 and the latest changes to BSEN61243-3:2010. It will also satisfy requirements set by governing bodies such as the NICEIC, NAPIT or others.

Included within the 17th Edition Safe Isolation Kit:

  • Martindale VI13800 Voltage Indicator
  • Martindale PD440 Proving Unit
  • Martindale Fitted Carry Bag
  • 1 x 38mm Safety Padlock (Supplied with 1 x Unique Key)
  • 2 x Grip tight MCB Lockouts (Main Circuit Breaker)
  • 2 x Mini Circuit Breaker Lockouts (<11mm & >11mm)
  • 2 x 25mm Safety Lockout ID Tags
  • 1 x 25mm Steel lockout Hasp

The Martindale VIPD and Lock off kit contains a Martindale VI13800 Contact Voltage Indicator that safely checks voltages from 50V to 600V AC/DC as required by the Electricity Council. The long life, bright neon indicators give a clear and fast display of the voltage level range. Finger guards prevent slipping onto live electrical circuits, double insulated test leads provide added protection with the inbuilt high wattage resistor.

There is a technical argument that fuses in a voltage indicator can cause unreliability and any problem with the fuse could cause the voltage indicator not to indicate a hazardous voltage. In reality this risk is very small and correct proving procedures will identify the problem. None the less, because of this potential problem, BS EN61243-3 prohibits the use of fuses in 2 pole voltage indicators. In order to fully comply with BS EN61243-3:2010 Martindale has released an updated version of VI-13700/2 with a model number of VI-13800. This new model has the fuse replaced by a high wattage resistor in the probe that will limit the current in the event of damage to the cable. This protection is superior to the protection offered by the fuse as the current that can flow under fault conditions is considerably less. The vast majority of competitor products have no protection built into the probe.

The Martindale PD440 Proving Unit produces 440 Volts AC/DC to enable the contact voltage indicator provided with this isolation kit to be fully checked. The PD440 is one of the few proving units to check indicators with ranges above 250V. The PD440 can also check Drummond test lamps and other filament lamps due to its output being sufficient to illuminate the bulb.
