Megger MIT481/2 Insulation Tester

The Megger MIT481/2 Insulation Tester, part of Megger’s 480/2 range, is a versatile, advanced insulation tester that is perfect for use in the telecommunications or cable-testing industries. Importantly, the device’s feedback-controlled insulation test voltage is now accurate to within just +2% which improves accuracy and helps prevent damage from over-voltage. The Megger MIT481/2’s three terminal connection allows A, B and E leads to be connected simultaneously and then selected by the user via an on-screen interface, thus preventing time-consuming cable swaps. However, the device also functions as a conventional two-terminal tester.

Test voltages of 50V, 100V, 250V and 500V can be chosen at the user’s discretion so insulation testing is quick and simple, especially thanks to the simple pass/fail indication on screen. The current test voltage and insulation resistance value are both shown whilst an ‘analogue’ arc expresses dynamic measurement readings. Tests are set to automatically shut down after a certain length of time. The Megger MIT481/2  automatically detects voltage over user-defined limits and will inhibit testing in the presence of dangerous voltage levels. Similarly, a buzzer will sound if insulation exceeds a user-adjusted limit, thus improving safety.

For continuity testing, the Megger MIT481/2 gives two current options at 200mA and 20mA whilst the range is now automatic and continuous from 0.01Ω to 1MΩ. NULL lead resistance compensation further enhances accuracy and readings are provided for REN. Differential measurement displays the difference between two consecutive continuity tests. True RMS measurement can be used for voltage in the Megger MIT481/2 whilst capacitance and frequency readings are also available.

Compared to the old Megger MIT480 range, the Megger MIT 481/2 now features a redesigned case, a back-stand and a 6 cell battery compartment with separate fuse access. The whole design is over-moulded for increased safety and it also meets IP54 weatherproofing standards. Overall, the Megger MIT481/2 is a versatile, highly accurate insulation tester with many different functions. Its numerous advanced measurement features and user-friendly functions make it a brilliant instrument for the telecommunications sector.
