The Megger MVCT VT and CT Test Set is a lightweight, robust, and highly portable test set designed for both current and voltage transformers. Weighing under 10kg, it combines portability with precision, performing saturation, ratio, polarity, winding resistance, and insulation tests on CTs, as well as testing metering and protection class VTs. Its microprocessor-controlled variable voltage and current outputs, along with precision instrumentation, enable for fully automated testing of single and multi-ratio CTs and VTs at the push of a button. This can be done without the need to change leads, making testing faster, more efficient, and much easier.

The MVCT is equipped with a large, full-colour, high-resolution TFT LCD touchscreen, and offers intuitive control for both manual and automated testing, displaying all test data clearly during and after testing. For additional flexibility, it can also be operated via a laptop using PowerDB software or Megger’s Smart Touch View Interface (STVI). The MVCT allows CTs and VTs to be tested directly in their installed configurations, such as within transformers, oil circuit breakers, or switchgear, provided they are isolated from the electrical system.

Applications of the MVCT

The Megger MVCT makes CT and VT testing simple, accurate, and efficient. For CTs, it performs fully automated saturation tests up to 40kV using advanced DC techniques, quickly calculating the rated knee point to IEEE and IEC standards while plotting saturation curves in real time. Multi-ratio CTs are easily handled, with up to 10 curves displayed simultaneously. Ratio, polarity, burden, and winding resistance tests are carried out with ease, and the unit also provides automatic CT demagnetisation to ensure accurate results.

For VTs, the MVCT delivers precise ratio, polarity, winding resistance, excitation, and short-circuit impedance testing, helping to identify defects and verify performance against factory data. Results are accurate and reliable, supported by powerful analysis features. All test data is automatically stored onboard, and can be seamlessly transferred to Megger’s PowerDB Lite software for report generation, curve plotting, and fully automated testing when required.
