Chauvin Arnoux CA6418 Earth Clamp

The Chauvin Arnoux CA6418 Earth Clamp is a useful instrument for measuring earth leakage current in electrical installations - ideal for complying with regulation 531:3:2 of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.

It is capable of measuring current from 0.5mA to 20A AC and also has a loop resistance measurement function that provides readings between 0.01Ω and 1200Ω. Current readings are accurate to ±2% and precise to as little as 50µA whilst loop resistance measurement has a best accuracy of ±1.5% and a best resolution of 1mΩ.

One of the standout features of the Chauvin Arnoux CA6418 is the oblong clamp that is ideally suited to measuring earth leakage current in different earth bars. It is capable of clamping round 30mm x 40mm rectangle bars, 20mm x 55mm rectangular bars, and ø32mm cylindrical bars. It is also possible to clamp onto an earth bar at an angle in constricted settings.

Further features of the Chauvin Arnoux CA6418 include a backlit digital screen and an internal memory with space for up to 300 readings which can be recalled to the screen with a time and date stamp. Data hold is available and readings are automatically frozen on screen when the clamp is open. Alarms can be set for Z and I with a buzzer alarm.

The clamp is operated using a simple dial and push-button interface. Automatic calibration of the jaw gap is carried out and it is possible to recalibrate the instrument without returning the clamp to the factory.

The Chauvin Arnoux CA6418 has a battery life for up to 2400 thirty-second measurements and is safety rated as Cat IV 100V and Cat III 150V. It is supplied with batteries, a wrist strap, user’s manual, verification certificate and a hard carry case. A reaully useful additional accessory is the earth clamp calibration loop that allows the user to check the clamp's accuracy at 198Ω, 49.5Ω, 22Ω, 12.4Ω, and 7.9Ω.
