FLIR A50 Image Streaming Thermal Camera (Choice of Lens)

The FLIR A50 Image Streaming Thermal Camera is a compact and fixed-mount solution that provides live radiometric video streaming for accurate, real-time temperature measurement and visualisation across a wide range of industrial, research, and automation environments. It is especially useful for engineers and technicians, as it helps them detect faults early, optimise processes, and avoid costly downtime. The A50 offers high sensitivity, rugged construction and simple integration at a lower cost, making it ideal for many standard automation, process-monitoring or condition-based-maintenance installations where ultra-fine detail is not required.

Thermal Imaging Performance

At its core, the A50 features a 464 × 348-pixel infrared detector with a 17 µm pitch that is powered by an uncooled microbolometer and an f/1.4 aperture. It has a high thermal sensitivity of NETD < 35 mK, which allows for sharp and detailed thermal imagery as well as the detection of even the smallest temperature changes. The A50 offers a wide temperature measurement range from –20°C to +1000°C, which can be extended for high-temperature industrial processes. Its accuracy of ±2°C or ±2% gives users consistent, repeatable results.

Connectivity and Software Integration

The A50 supports radiometric streaming, which is enabled through GigE Vision and GenICam. This means that every frame transmitted contains full temperature data for each pixel, allowing for advanced analysis and precise process control. Its high frame rate of up to 30 Hz ensures smooth, real-time video even in fast-changing conditions, while the Power over Ethernet (PoE) simplifies installation and operation by combining data and power into a single cable.

The A50 works seamlessly with FLIR Research Studio and FLIR Atlas SDK, along with a wide range of third-party platforms for data acquisition, automation, and analysis. This allows users to remotely control and configure the camera, define measurement regions, set alarm thresholds, and log data for trend analysis or reporting.

The A50, with its open SDK and standard communication protocols, can be embedded into existing control systems, PLCs, or custom-built applications. It also supports digital I/O for triggering, synchronisation, and external alarm control.

Lens Configurations

The A50 is available in three lens configurations: 29°, 51°, and 95°. These options allow users to choose the best field of view for their specific inspection or research needs. Each lens is factory-calibrated to ensure consistent thermal accuracy and image quality across a range of distances and applications.

29° Image Streaming Camera (part number: 89829-0401)

  • Field of View: 29° × 22°
  • Focal Length: 14.3 mm
  • Minimum Focus Distance: 0.25 m
  • Visual Camera Resolution: 1280 × 960
  • Ideal for standard R&D, electronics testing, and precise thermal measurements where detailed imagery is essential.

51° Image Streaming Camera (part number: 89851-0401)

  • Field of View: 51° × 39°
  • Focal Length: 8.2 mm
  • Minimum Focus Distance: 0.2 m
  • Visual Camera Resolution: 1280 × 960
  • Best suited for applications requiring a wider perspective, such as process monitoring or component assembly validation.

95° Image Streaming Camera (part number: 89895-0401)

  • Field of View: 95° × 75°
  • Focal Length: 4.2 mm
  • Minimum Focus Distance: 0.1 m
  • Visual Camera Resolution: 1280 × 960
  • Designed for large-scale inspections and thermal behaviour analysis, providing maximum coverage and efficiency.

Environmental Performance

The A50 features a rugged aluminium housing with a corrosion-resistant finish that meets ISO 12944 C4 and EN60068-2-11 standards. The housing is IP66-rated, which means it offers excellent protection against dust, moisture, and vibration, making it suitable for industrial and outdoor use. Its compact size and lightweight design make it easy to install, and its operating temperature range of –20 to 50°C (with cooling plates) and –20 to 35°C (without) ensures that it performs consistently in demanding environments.
