FLIR A500 Image Streaming Thermal Camera (Choice of Lens)
The FLIR A500 Image Streaming Thermal Camera is a mid-tier, high-resolution, fixed-mount infrared imaging system designed for demanding industrial, research, and automation environments. It provides more detailed more accurate data than the A400 model, making it ideal for applications that require precision, for instance, process optimisation, quality assurance, and predictive maintenance tasks.
Imaging & Performance
Equipped with an IR resolution of 464 × 348 pixels using an uncooled microbolometer and a 17 µm detector pitch, the A500 captures finer visuals of temperature gradients and smaller targets, representing a 45% increase in pixel count over the A400. The A500 provides a thermal accuracy of ±2°C or ±2% of readings with a thermal sensitivity (NETD) that varies by lens configuration (<30 mK with the 42° lens, <40 mK with the 24° lens, and <50 mK with the 14° lens at 30°C). This allows it to capture subtle temperature differences, which is critical for early fault detection and thermal analysis.
Lens Options
The A500 offers a variety of lens options, allowing users to optimise their field of view (FOV) and working distance to match specific applications. Even when temperatures fluctuate, these lenses maintain their focus integrity. Available options include:
- FLIR A500 Image Streaming 14° Lens (part number: 90603-0401)
- FLIR A500 Image Streaming 24° Lens (part number: 90601-0401)
- FLIR A500 Image Streaming 42° Lens (part number: 90602-0401)
- FLIR A500 Image Streaming DFOV 42° + 24° Lens (part number: 90612-0401)
Here’s a table to help you choose the most suitable option.

With an automatic lens identification system, the A500 can instantly recognise the installed lens and apply the appropriate calibration to optimise performance. Focus can be adjusted using motorised, one-shot contrast, or manual modes, allowing for precise remote adjustment via a control interface, sharp thermal images generated by internal algorithms and full control in laboratory or R&D environments, respectively.
Connectivity & Streaming
The A500’s Image Streaming configuration supports high-speed data integration and real-time visualisation. It offers both radiometric and video streaming via GVSP (GigE Vision) and RTSP protocols, allowing thermal and visual data to be transmitted simultaneously or independently. Supported formats include GVSP Video Streaming at 640 × 480 pixels and GVSP Radiometric Streaming at 320 × 240 pixels.
The A500 is compliant with GigE Vision 1.2 and GenICam standards, making it compatible with a wide range of automation and vision software. It connects with a robust M12 8-pin X-coded Ethernet interface and supports Power over Ethernet (PoE, IEEE 802.3af Class 3) for easy installation.
Environmental Durability
The A500 is built for industrial resilience, delivering consistent performance in demanding environments. It carries an IP54 protection rating (upgradable to IP66 with accessories) and meets international standards for durability and endurance, including:
- Operating Temperature: –20°C to +50°C (with cooling plate for higher temperatures)
- Humidity: 95% RH, 25°C–40°C (IEC 60068-2-30)
- Shock: 25 g (IEC 60068-2-27)
- Corrosion Resistance: ISO 12944 C4 G/H
This rugged design ensures the camera performs consistently in production plants, foundries, or outdoor installations.
