IET Wiring Regulation 18th Edition (BS 761:2018+A4:2026) is the UK’s recognised standard for safe electrical installations across domestic, commercial and industrial environments. Used by electricians, designers, specifiers, inspectors and facilities teams, BS 7671 supports consistent compliance for design, installation, inspection, certification and maintenance of low-voltage electrical systems.
BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 is a consolidated publication, bringing together BS7671:2018 and all prior amendments into one up-to-date reference. Amendment 4:2026 is a major update to the Eighteenth Edition, helping ensure the standard reflects modern installation methods, technologies and verification requirements.
Key technical updates in Amendment 4 include new requirements for stationary secondary batteries used for electrical energy storage within installations, functional earthing and functional equipotential bonding for ICT equipment and systems, and a dedicated section covering Power over Ethernet (PoE) distribution. It also introduces a major revision of Section 710 Medical Locations, plus a schedule of test results for recording resistance of supplementary protective equipotential bonding conductors, supporting clearer verification and documentation.
