IPEC Contact Acoustic Add-on Sensor

The IPEC Contact Acoustic Add-on Sensor is mainly used to detect partial discharge (PD) activity through contact with oil-filled transformers, circuit breakers, switch gears and other high-voltage plant equipment. This allows it to capture high-frequency acoustic emissions caused by discharge events within the oil or insulated medium.

When partial discharge occurs in oil-filled assets, the sensor produces acoustic signals that passes through the insulating oil and metallic cladding. The Contact Acoustic Sensor detects these signals, providing early warning of PD activity that could otherwise result in progressive insulation degradation and eventual equipment failure.
