The IPEC HFCT48 Add-on Sensor is a high-frequency current transformer designed to be reliable in picking up partial discharge signals found primarily in cables. The HFCT48 features a split-core ferrite design to allow users to fit the sensor retrospectively onto the earth straps without disconnecting the system. In operation, PD activity within solid high-voltage insulation generates small high-frequency currents that travel through the electrical system’s earth conductor toward the substation ground.
