The IPEC TEV Add-on Sensor is a capacitive coupler that detects Transient Earth Voltages (TEVs) caused by partial discharge (PD) activity as they pass over the metal cladding of high-voltage plants. Partial discharge inside switchgear and similar assets generates small, high-frequency voltage impulses that travel across the cladding surface.

The TEV sensor captures these signals as they travel around the outer surface of the enclosure, allowing for accurate detection and analysis of PD activity. When connected to IPEC’s ASM, PrecisePD, or PD-SG1 systems, the sensor delivers fast, accurate output signals for partial discharge spot testing or continuous monitoring.

The sensor features a durable PVC sleeve that provides added protection as well as high-strength magnets embedded in the body that can be securely attached to the steel-clad enclosure for stable coupling during testing. It has a design that offers a highly sensitive and non-intrusive solution for detecting early signs of insulation breakdown, allowing technicians reduce equipment failure and improve network reliability.
