Megger MOM2 200A Micro-Ohmmeter

The Megger MOM2 is an innovative hand held Micro-Ohmmeter, designed with both portability and high current output specification in mind.

Able to output up to 200A DC in order to provide a high accuracy resistance measurement as low as one micro-ohm (0.000001 Ohm), the Megger MOM2 is suitable for a wide range of testing applications in almost any location. This is due to an ultra-capacitor that is designed to store and discharge a huge amount of energy due a very low internal resistance, unlike a standard capacitor.

Whilst testing, the ultra-capacitor is discharged across the test object, whilst the voltage drop is simultaneously monitored. Both voltage and current readings are synchronously sampled and averaged, allowing the Megger MOM2 to display an accurate resistance measurement.

The Megger MOM2 also features DualGround testing certification. This means that the micro-ohmmeter features groundbreaking technology and methods that enable for a safe, fast and easy workflow, with both sides of the test subject grounded (earthed) throughout the test process. This means the Megger MOM2 is certified for use by many utilities requiring a safety earth connection in place during sub-station outages.

Supplied with a strong rubber holster within a hard carry case, the portable design of the Megger MOM2 micro-ohmmeter makes it the ideal instrument for use in the field and substations alike. Fully charged, an engineer can expect a full day’s worth of testing without further recharge, whilst being able to store and download 190 test values via Bluetooth to a PC or Laptop using the MOMWin software supplied.

Why test resistance at such a low value?

If the contact resistance on a high current electrical joint is too high, temperature rises and power loss are inevitable leading to a host of problems such as overheating joints and electrical equipment failure. The following table demonstrates the importance of low resistance joins within high current applications:

Current Contact Resistance Power Loss
10,000A (10kA) 1 milli-Ohm 100,000 Watts (100kW)
10,000A (10kA) 0.1 milli-Ohm 10,000 Watts (10kW)
1,000A (1kA) 1 milli-Ohm 1,000 Watts (1kW)
1,000A (1kA) 0.1 milli-Ohm 100 Watts
