The Metrel MI3290 GX Earth Analyser is suitable for testing earth resistance and earth potential via a range of different methods. This makes it useful for measurement of protective earthing on installations such as pylons, MV/LV transformer stations, ski lifts, radio towers, renewable energy installations and industrial facilities.

The Metrel MI3290 GX can perform two-, three- and four-wire earth resistance tests and measure selective earth resistance via a clamp. Furthermore, it can measure earth conductor resistance via two iron clamps or specific earth resistance via the Wenner and Schlumberger methods. Flex clamps allow testing on mono- or multi-leg pylons and the earth tester is also suitable for measuring current, low resistance, and earth potential. Finally, it can perform step and contact measurements and impulse earth measurements.

Alongside the capacity for multiple measurement techniques, the Metrel MI3290 GX has a wide frequency band that goes from 55Hz to 15kHz. Testing can be performed at a single frequency or with the sweep method across the whole of the frequency range. Additionally, there is a special 25kHz high-frequency pulse test that simulates a lightning strike.

Results are shown on the Metrel MI3290 GX’s 3.4” colour touchscreen. It is operated using intuitive menus and simple navigation buttons with clearly labelled connectors for all applications. Both single measurements and automatic test sequences can be carried out by this earth tester and it has high immunity for electrical noise which makes it suitable for use in industrial settings.

The Metrel MI3290 GX has a 1GB internal memory which can save a huge number of readings with accompanying information. This is easy to navigate via the user-friendly interface and information can be transferred using a USB cable or a wireless Bluetooth connection. The analyser comes supplied with software that is ideal for pre- and post-test processing, test structure preparation, data transfers and graphical analysis, storage and printing.

The Metrel MI3290 GX can work off its rechargeable batteries or from the mains and has excellent enclosure protection rating: IP54 with the case open or IP65 with the case closed. Standard accessories include earth spikes, a connection lead, test leads a G clamp, test probes, crocodile clips, and an accessory bag. In the GX1 Set, it also comes supplied with an A1018 iron clamp, an A1019 iron clamp, a flex clamp, a Kelvin clamp, a voltmeter, batteries and power supply adaptor.
