The Metrohm MCAT+ Micro Cross Arm Tester System is a compact, field-ready solution designed to assess the condition of wooden pole cross arms on 11kV unearthed networks. It is built for both single-phase and three-phase overhead line systems, which allows engineers to quickly identify faulty insulators and measure prospective short circuit current (ISC) before energisation. The MCAT+ works seamlessly with the WPC1000TX wireless transmitter to compare the phase relationship between the live conductor and the cross arm, enabling confident detection of insulation faults. Safety is prioritised throughout the testing process. If cross arm voltage exceeds 2.7 kV, the MCAT+ automatically inhibits operation to protect both the user and the equipment. Clear visual and audible feedback further simplifies decision-making in the field, with four LED indicators and an alarm communicating results instantly.

Accuracy is maintained across a wide measurement range. Voltage readings are rated at ±1% up to 11 kV and ±5% above 11 kV, providing the precision required for critical inspections. ISC results are presented using a straightforward pass/fail system, categorised as safe, caution, or unsafe, allowing operators to act quickly without second-guessing the data. A high-contrast 240 × 64 graphic LCD ensures excellent visibility, even in bright outdoor conditions, while the intuitive encoder and push-button interface enable fast, hassle-free navigation.

Designed for demanding environments, the MCAT+ operates reliably in temperatures ranging from -25°C to +55°C. Its lightweight yet rugged construction makes it easy to transport and handle on-site, whether working on remote lines or in harsh weather conditions.
