Radiodetection Tx-121 Isolation Transformer

The Tx-121 Isolation Transformer is an accessory designed for the Tx-10, which aids in locating core to core short faults on a twisted, core-type, 3-phase LV mains distribution cables. When coupled with a locating signal from a Tx-10 transmitter, the Tx-121 can be connected across a pair of shorted faulty cores on a buried, live or out of service LV cable. The location of the fault can then be determined using a suitable Radiodetection Precision Locator.

A huge benefit of using the Tx-121 Isolation Transformer is the way in which it reduces the need for exploratory digs, aswell as 'cut-to-find' isolation tasks, saving money on repairs, whilst also minimising disruption to the public.

Once the route of the buried cable has been established and clearly marked, the Tx-121 should be connected across the faulty cores, with the Tx-10 connected to the Tx-121's input, with a low frequency locate signal recommended. With the blade in line with the direction of the cable's route, the operator can then follow the regular variations of signal strength, as the connected cores twist in the cable. The operator can then identify the location of a fault, once a drop in the relative signal strength has been detected.
