With the TB118 Gas Engineer’s Essential Electrical Test Kit, you get the Socket & See PDL234+ loop tester that indicates whether it is safe to connect to the installation, a VVD PRO non-contact voltage detector and SP200 proving unit that performs a safe isolation procedure, plus specialist lock off devices for 13 Amp plugs MCB / RCB and fused spurs. The kit also contains a protective carry bag keeping everything safe and ready to use.

As part of the Socket & See TB118 Gas Engineers Essential Electrical Test Kit, a gas engineer has all the equipment required to comply with Technical Bulletin 118 (safe electrical isolation of gas appliances.) In accordance with safety standards TS118, BS 6891 and BS 6400 all require safe to touch test for the presence of hazardous voltage on appliances, pipework, and exposed metal work, this can be done using the Socket & See VVD PRO non-contact voltage detector which is included in the TB118 Essential Kit. The VVD PRO voltage indicator gives visual and physical warning of any hazardous voltage detected, allowing you to work safely.

The Socket & See TB118 Essential Test Kit, also contains a lock off device to stop unwanted energising in case an appliance is connected to the mains. The lock you get as part of the kit is for 13 Amp plugs, MCB / RCB and fused spurs. To allow the safe isolation procedure to be carried out, the kit includes a two-pole voltage indicator and proving unit, accompanied with prohibition tags so the full “lockout – tag out” procedure can be conducted. As part of the VIP200 voltage indicator in the TB118 Essential Kit is an additional continuity test facility, single pole indication and flashlight. SP200 proving unit are designed to provide an accessible AC “known source” for the purpose of proving the operation of voltage indicators before and after use, which is covered in Stage 2 and 4 of the TB118 safe isolation procedure.

Due to gas appliances being class 1 (earthed enclosure), TB118 requires a check of the power supply earthing. It is possible to perform the earth loop impedance test without tripping the installation RCD by using the PDL234+ loop tester.
