The Trend VFF5 Fibre Optic Cable Visual Fault Finder is a hand-held, battery powered tool ideal for verifying continuity and locating breaks, poor mechanical splices or damaged connectors within fibre optic cabling. By sending the laser through any 3mm or smaller cables, the operator can simply look at the length of cable and if there is a break it will be seen as a conspicuously glowing or blinking red light. Users can test and find breaks in fibre links, locate pinched fibre strands in termination cabinets or indeed anywhere fibre optic cables are terminated and subject to potential mechanical damage.

Additionally, this fault finder is a supremely useful aide for technicians terminating mechanical splices or internal-splice style connectors and pre-polished or "no-polish" connectors such as the MTRJ, where a leaking light is an indicator of a poor fibre cleave or other such misalignment. Use this instrument as your first-line of basic troubleshooting or in combination with an OTDR to pinpoint faults.

Incorporated within the VFF5 is a high-power, extra long-life, day light visible, 650nm laser diode which can operate in either Continuous (CW) or Modulated (MOD; 1Hz Pulse) mode. Select the required mode via a simple push-button interface, designed to prevent battery drain due to accidental activation of the unit while inside your tool pouch.

A bright red LED on the outer casing of the Fault Finder indicates which mode has been selected so there is no need to disconnect the fault finder mid-task. The universal 2.5mm interface of the VFF5 connects directly to ST, SC or FC connectors while the device as a whole is useable over a 5km distance into multimode and single-mode fibre, or multimode and single-mode cable. With a ruggedised aluminium body and protective Santoprene over-sleeve, the Trend VFF5 Fibre Optic Cable Visual Fault Finder and its non-roll design is essential for bench top use when terminating mechanical splices or internal-splice connectors. Pocket sized and supplied with a protective cap, this tool comes complete with holster, lanyard, cell-phone style belt clip, instruction sheet and batteries. Two AA batteries will provide over 30 hours of continuous mode operation or 80 hours of use when in flashing mode.
