EA Technology CDC3-UK CableData Collector

The EA Technology CDC3-UK CableData Collector has been designed to assist in the management of cable networks, allowing for cable managers to check and understand the condition of these assets. This early identification helps reduce disruption caused by maintenance outages, by allowing for problem areas to be caught and fixed before they become an issue.

This quick, safe, and non-disruptive instrument provides the user with expert cable condition analysis & reports, whilst detecting and measuring partial discharge activity in these cables. The CDC3-UK works with most insulated cables up to a distance of several miles, and is small and portable for use on a range of job sites. The CableData Collector works online, and is supplied as a ready-to-use system complete with a carry case. It is powered through its USB port, which can be plugged into a laptop or PC for operation. The central unit has four BNC connectors which are used during testing, with three of them for use with the supplied HFCTs, and one for phase reference.

CableData Collector Hardware and Optional CDAS Analytical Software

CableData Collector Hardware can be used to analyse PD activity on a PC or laptop, with the user only having to follow three simple steps to access the quality test results that EA Technology's Collector can provide. Simply plug the Radio Frequency Current Transformers around the Cable Earth Straps, and then plug them into the CableData Collector. This will allow for partial discharge testing, which can be uploaded to a PC or laptop through a USB cable. The image below shows the process in detail, which can analyse PD in single core or 3-core cables, with three single-core cables shown below.

You can also purchase CableData Analysis Studio Software, which allows for recorded PD data to be interpreted. This gives users the following results:

  • The severity of PD activity
  • Evidence on which to assess the risks of failure
  • Intelligence for decisions on remedial action or replacement

You can purchase this software through the 'Optional Accessories' tab below, or by clicking here to visit the EA Technology CDAS CableData® Analytical Software page, where a more detailed explanation of the software will be given.

The power cables that are being tested must be earthed with an earth strap to allow measurements to be made between phase and earth. The illustration below shows the effects of partial discharge, which will be indicated by a set of pulses that are both equal in magnitude, but are opposite in polarity. The effects of PD will be shown clearly, allowing the user to take action before a more severe issue occurs.
