Megger B10E Trip Coil Tester

The Megger B10E Trip Coil Tester safely and accurately tests circuit breaker coils in substations and industrial locations. This compact, self-contained solution removes the risk associated with using substation batteries by delivering a ripple-free, variable DC voltage. As a result, reliable minimum tripping voltage tests can be carried out in line with international and national standards such as IEC 62271‑100 and ANSI C37.09, making it easier to identify sluggish solenoids and confirm that protective mechanisms are operating as intended.

The B10E is capable of handling high and variable loads with ease and features a dedicated output for spring‑charging motors. This adds flexibility in situations where auxiliary voltage is unavailable and allows for comprehensive testing of both breaker coils and charging motors against original manufacturer specifications, all from a single unit.

Operation is straightforward thanks to an intuitive control panel layout with 19 key functions and a clear digital voltage display.

  • 1. Output for DC voltage supplied to closing/ breaking coil
  • 2. Output for AC voltage supplied to closing/ breaking coil
  • 3. F2. 4 A fuse for AC outputs
  • 4. Changeover switch used to select either DC or AC coil outputs
  • 5. Changeover switch used to select either coil outputs or spring-charging motor outputs
  • 6. DC voltage outputs for spring-charging motor. Provide unsmoothed, half-wave rectified DC ranging up to 18 A
  • 7. Button for turning on spring-charging motor voltage
  • 8. Current shunt output used to measure current, in coils or spring-charging motors (max 5 A continuous)
  • 9. Voltmeter
  • 10. Input for external trig signal or short-circuiting jumper
  • 11. Button for manual trigging pulse via coil outputs. (Switch 12 set to voltage position)
  • 12. Changeover switch used to select either contact sensing or voltage sensing at the trig input
  • 13. Reset button for thermal, overload and/or time limit cut-outs
  • 14. Variable transformer
  • 15. Master ON/OFF switch
  • 16. Inlet for mains power
  • 17. F1. 7 A miniature circuit breaker for DC spring charging motor
  • 18. Grounding terminal
  • 19. Changeover switches (A) and (B) for incoming power 115/230/135/250 V AC

Integrated thermal cut‑outs and overload protection ensure that safety is prioritised, giving operators confidence and peace of mind during testing. Developed in collaboration with breaker manufacturers and field testing professionals, the B10E delivers a dependable, user‑focused design suited to real‑world maintenance conditions.

The unit is robust enough for substation work while remaining easy to transport between sites. It performs reliably across an operating temperature range of 0 °C to +50 °C and withstands storage and transport conditions down to −40 °C. With CE compliance covering LVD, EMC and RoHS directives, it meets essential safety and environmental requirements.

Users can choose between the standalone instrument (Part number: BG-29002) or a comprehensive accessory kit (Part number: BG-29092), offering added versatility when carrying out essential circuit breaker testing.
