The Megger BITE5 Advanced Battery Tester is a diagnostic tool that can test lead acid (VLA and VRLA), NiCD and lithium-ion batteries. It accurately measures and records battery voltage, impedance, temperature and intercell connections while also supporting discharge testing. The BITE5 Advanced offers a high measurement capability of up to 500V on battery modules, a touch screen interface that is easy to use and a built-in RFID tag reading for asset tracking, delivering advanced functionality in a streamlined, field-ready unit.

Battery Impedance Testing

The BITE5 Advanced provides precise impedance testing for individual cells and full battery strings. As mentioned before, it measures cell impedance, voltage, temperature and inter-cell (strap) resistance, allowing users to identify deteriorating cells before they compromise system reliability.

Recorded data can be trended directly on the intuitive touch screen, along with setting pass, warning and fail limits for voltage and impedance, as well as straps to support fast, accurate onsite assessments. In addition, the BITE5 Advanced records ripple voltage, ripple current and float current. Data stored on a USB or SD card can be transferred to Megger’s PowerDB software to create custom reports and automated analysis.

Battery Discharge Testing

The BITE5 Advanced records voltage, DC current, impedance, and temperature for each cell throughout the entire discharge cycle. This allows users to verify real-world battery capacity and detect performance issues that that would otherwise go undetected by impedance testing alone. The average impedance can be measured at the end of the commissioning test and used as a benchmark for future impedance testing. All discharge trends can be viewed directly on the touch screen, offering a clear overview of individual cell performance and complete string behaviour.

Parallel String Testing and Recharge Monitoring

The BITE5 Advanced allows users to test and troubleshoot batteries within parallel strings without the need for segmentation, reducing downtime while speeding up assessments and simplifying testing in larger, more complex installations, such as UPS systems, telecom networks and substation battery banks.

To support continuous maintenance workflows, the BITE5 Advanced trends discharge and recharge cycles of complete battery strings. This provides valuable insight into charging behaviour, recovery patterns and long-term degradation, helping maintenance teams make informed decisions about replacement scheduling and performance optimisation.
