Megger BITE5 Battery Tester

The Megger BITE5 Battery Tester allowing for testing of acid batteries, NiCD batteries as well as lithium-ion batteries in a number of applications such as substations, telecoms, UPS, data centres and solar and wind farms. Using the BITE5 a number of tests can be performed and recorded, including battery voltage, impedance and temperature with discharge testing also supported. Using the BITE5 the device will measure the voltage, current, impedance and temperature through the discharge cycle.

Battery impedance testing

Using the BITE5, impedance on cells can be measured up to 200V. Data can be recorded can be trended on the units colour touchscreen. The trended data can be viewed for each test or the trend of the data of each cell. Pass, warnings and fail limits for both voltage and impedance can be set. Data recorded for ripple voltage, ripple current and float current can be transferred VIA USB or via an SD card to the PowerDB software. Using the software custom reports and automated analysis can be generated.

Battery discharge testing

Throughout the entire discharge testing procedure, the BITE5 will record data for DC. Current, impedance and temperature of each cell. The average impedance can be measured at the end of a commissioning test with this being able to be used as the limit for future impedance testing. The recorded data can be trended, with data for each test or trend discharge of each cell viewable on the display. Custom reports can be generated using the PowerDB software, with data transferred via USB or via an SD card.

Solar systems

Using the BITE5 users are able to measure and record the output of solar cells combiner DC voltages up to 1000V DC, measure the input and output of inverters (up to 1000V DC and ups to 600V AC) and also test lithium-ion batteries.

Battery powered by a Li-ion rechargeable pack, the BITE5 has a battery life of up to eight hours (300 charge/discharge cycles) from a full charge. The BITE5 includes a 16GB flash storage capable of storing up to 1000 impedance records or 512 VA records. IP54 rated the BITE5 is protected against water and dust ingress and has a CAT rating of 600 V CAT III, Pollution Degree 2.
