The Megger CI/LCI Cable Identifier provides clear identification of de-energised or energised power cables to ensure safe cutting, jointing and maintenance. Using defined current impulses of up to 100A injected into the target conductor, the system creates a distinct electromagnetic field that allows technicians to reliably distinguish the correct cable within a group. The receiver’s flex-clamp sensor detects both signal strength and polarity, enabling accurate selection by identifying the conductor that exhibits the unique impulse signature or, in some cases, the only cable without a signal. This method reduces the risk of accidental damage, personal injury and unplanned outages caused by incorrect cable identification.

Capable of operating on low or medium voltage networks, the CI/LCI supports identification on both dead and live cables up to 240 V AC. Its streamlined two-unit build, which features a compact generator that injects the impulse and a lightweight receiver that interprets it, ensures efficient field operation even in congested cable environments or in the presence of electrical interference. With a proven and widely adopted design, the CI/LCI offers a dependable solution for technicians and utility crews working on underground or overhead distribution systems, enabling safe, confident and accurate cable selection under real-world conditions.
