Megger ESG NT2 Ground Fault Locator

The Megger ESG NTS Ground Fault Locator is an advanced earth fault locator designed to precisely pinpoint faults in a cable’s sheath. These faults cause a measuring current to leak into the ground, creating a voltage gradient that the devices measures. It uses the step voltage method to accurately locate faults. As the operator approaches the fault point, the measured potential increases, and after passing it, the potential decreases with a reversed polarity, allowing for precise location. The device is able to automatically filters out other underground electrical distortions and maintains continuous zero calibration, eliminating the need for manual adjustments.

The ESG NT2 features a high-contrast colour display that shows the measured stop voltage in two formats, which are a bar graph and a continuous “history display” of recent measurements, making it easy to see changes. The instrument’s deflection always indicates the direction of the earth fault. Thanks to an ‘easyGO’ principle, the ESG NT2 requires almost no manual operation steps, as it automatically adapts to the input voltage level and works with nearly any pulse generator.

Beyond its standard pinpointing function, the ESG NT2 offers a 50 and 60Hz locating mode. This allows users to easily identify and pinpoint high-ohmic phase-to-ground faults on low-voltage cables without needing an additional signal generator. This feature provides a significant time and cost saving, particularly in situations where a house connection box is not accessible and the alternative would be to cut the cable.

Key Features

  • Uses the step voltage method to accurately locate cable sheath faults by detecting and analysing changes in voltage potential
  • Automatically detects and eliminates common underground electrical interferences, such as DC offset and cathodic protection influences, ensuring clean, reliable measurements
  • Features a high-contrast colour display that shows measured step voltage as both a bar graph and a continuous history display
  • The device’s automatic zero calibration and self-adaptation to input voltage levels eliminate the need for manual setup or range adjustments
  • In addition to its standard pinpointing mode, it includes a 50 and 60Hz locating mode to find high-ohmic faults on low-voltage cables without a separate signal generator
  • Equipped with an automatic pulse detector, it can work with almost any type of pulse generator
  • The ‘easyGO’ principle minimises operational steps, making it simple to use
