The Megger EZ-THUMP 3 kV and 4 kV V3 models are compact, fully self-contained cable fault location systems designed specifically for low voltage power distribution networks. These portable, battery operated units combine TDR pre-location, ARM® arc-reflection technology and high energy surge ‘thumping’ to enable quick identification and pinpointing of cable faults in both shielded and unshielded LV systems. The 3 kV model uses dual-voltage outputs (1.5 kV / 3 kV), while the 4 kV variant delivers a single 4 kV output, giving flexibility for different cable types, fault scenarios and insulation levels.

Each EZ-Thump unit includes an intuitive, guided user interface designed for clear navigation and minimal training requirements. The built-in TDR can locate low resistance faults over several kilometers, while ARM® is used to identify high-resistance or intermittent breakdowns without overstressing the cable. Once a fault is located to a general area, the onboard surge generator delivers up to 500 J of energy to acoustically pinpoint the exact fault position using standard listening devices. Additional functions include insulation testing, breakdown detection and sheath fault location, enabling a complete diagnostic workflow within one instrument.

Designed for field deployment, the EZ-Thump range features rugged construction, IP-rated environmental protection and dual power options via AC mains or internal batteries – ideal for urban utilities, industrial facilities and contractors working on distributed LV networks. Both the 15 ft and 50 ft versions of each model provide the same electrical performance, with the longer lead sets offering more flexibility when working across larger cabinets or more complex installations.

There is a choice between four options, which are as follows:
