Megger ODEN 240V Primary Current Injection Test System

The Megger ODEN 240V Primary Current Injection Test System has been expertly designed for the primary injection testing of protective relay equipment and circuit breakers. It can also be used to test the turns ratio of current transformers and for other applications that require high variable currents. The system consists of a control unit together, with one, two, or three current units. There are three versions of the current unit: S, X, and H, with the S and X current units identical except for the X unit having an additional 30/60V output. The H unit is rated for even higher current. This enables the user to configure the ODEN AT system in a suitable way, with all parts being portable which ensures that the system can be quickly assembled and connected.

The control unit includes a range of advanced features, including a powerful measurement system that displays parameters such as turns ratio, time, voltage, and current. A second input channel allows for the simultaneous measurement of an additional current or voltage. It automatically calculates and displays CT turns ratio, impedance, resistance, power, power factor (cos φ), and phase angle. Measurements can also be shown as a percentage of nominal values. A fast-acting hold function captures short-duration readings by freezing the display when a stop signal is received, current injection is halted, or the test object interrupts the current.

The ODEN AT is purpose-built for primary current injection and circuit breaker testing, delivering high current with precise timing for short-duration events. It measures breaker operating time without additional contacts and synchronises output with the current’s zero-crossing for accuracy. It also supports CT testing with direct display of turns ratio, secondary burden (in VA), and polarity. Ideal for heat runs and long-term testing, ODEN AT can apply current continuously or in timed intervals. It also tests automatic reclosers and sectionalisers, recording timings and lockouts with programmable sequences. Ground grid and safety-ground integrity can be verified by injecting current and measuring voltage drop or impedance.

Features and Benefits of the ODEN AT

  • 1. Display – Shows time, output current, voltage, phase angle, and selectable values like impedance (Z), power (P/Q/S), resistance, reactance, power factor, and max current.
  • 2. Miniature Circuit Breaker – Cuts current output automatically or manually for safe disconnection.
  • 3. Current Reduction Button – Reduces output current to 1/30 for safer setup and to prevent tripping.
  • 4. Fine/Coarse Adjustment – Knob and buttons for precise and broad current control.
  • 5. Indicator Lamps – Show whether voltmeter or ammeter 2 is active.
  • 6. Voltmeter Input – For measuring voltage or micro-ohm resistance.
  • 7. Ammeter 2 Input – Measures current in external circuits (e.g. CT secondary)
  • 8. Hold Function – Freezes readings on the display at trigger points.
  • 9. Change Knob – Used to select menus and adjust values.
  • 10. Settings Buttons -
    - Ammeter – Set main current meter, range or autorange

    - Application – Choose mode (e.g. recloser, sectionaliser, micro-ohmeter)
  • 11. Injection Button – Starts current injection and timing.
  • 12. Momentary Injection – Injects only while pressed and prevents overheating.
  • 13. Warning Lamp – Glows red during active current injection.
  • 14. Manual Stop – Stops injection and timing.
  • 15. Auto Injection Stop – Ends injection on timer or external condition.
  • 16. Stop Condition Indicator – Lights when stop trigger is met (voltage/contact)
  • 17. Status Indicator – Shows contact closure or voltage presence.
  • 18. Stop Input – Triggers stop or hold via voltage, contact, or current break.
  • 19. USB Port – For data transfer to/from a PC.
