Megger PD Scan Handheld Partial Discharge Scanner

The Megger PD Scan Handheld Partial Discharge Scanner is a compact, portable instrument that can detect partial discharge from medium voltage switchgear and other electrical equipment. As partial discharge signals can be an early sign of a developing fault, this can prevent defects leading to failures in network sections and helps decrease the repair bill.

The Megger PD Scan has two internal sensors (TEV, acoustic airborne) and can also work with external sensors such as TEV, HCFT, airborne acoustic and contact probes. The scanner has three soft keys as well as a touchscreen and is operated via an intuitive menu system. Automatic recognition of external sensors prevents operating with the wrong settings and means that there is no need to browse through and pick a function.

The versatility of the Megger PD Scan is very impressive. Its capability to work with an HCFT sensor means that it can detect partial discharges in cable insulation whilst a contact-probe sensor allows detection in encapsulated switchgears. Corona and surface discharges in MV and HV systems can be detected with a parabolic acoustic sensor.

To complement its partial discharge function, the Megger PD Scan is supplied with a temperature and humidity sensor. These factors affect partial discharge readings and are automatically recorded within the scanner’s internal memory alongside test results.

Measurement data taken with the Megger PD Scan are evaluated and interpreted automatically and there is an integrated camera that allows the user to take a picture of identified defects. There is a QR scanner that can identify the particular asset under inspection. The scanner is Bluetooth enabled for use with a headset.

MeggerBook RE reporting software is supplied as standard and facilitates analysis and reporting.

Choice of Kits

The Megger PD Scan is available in a range of different kits for different applications. The Switchgear Basis set includes an external TEV sensor, function tester, temperature and humidity sensor, charge, USB cable, headphones and a transport case. The Switchgear Basic + Cable set also features an HCFT sensor for cable insulation partial discharges.

The Megger PD Scan Pro + Cable set includes a flexible acoustic sensor and acoustic contact probe in addition to all of the accessories featured in the basis sets. A Bluetooth headphone set is also included and a there is a transport PRO case. The Pro + Cable + Outdoor set features an additional parabolic receiver. A full kit breakdown is available below:
