Megger S1-1568 15kV Insulation Resistance Tester

The Megger S1-1568 is the final model within the Megger S1-Series of high voltage insulation resistance testers. Featuring a 15kV output, the S1-1568 is principally intended for use in power generation environments and electrical distribution/transmission networks.

The S1-1568 outputs DC voltage between 1kV and 15kV, allowing for insulation resistance measurements up to an impressive 35 TΩ.

Remote control via an isolated USB port allows for external operation, whilst electrical noise rejection filters (up to 8mA) and Bluetooth output signify that the Megger S1-1568 is the ideal 15kV tester to be used within hostile environments, such as areas prone to electrical arcing, HV switchgear rooms, static discharge areas and atmospheres prone to lightning strike, i.e., lightning conductors.

What's more, the S1-1568 offers the operative the ability to conduct timed tests,  polarisation index (PI), dielectric absorption ratio (DAR), step voltage, dielectric discharge and ramp testing.

Electrical test results can be analysed in three separate ways. The Megger S1-1568 features an advanced internal memory, capable of recording eleven hours of time/date stamped measurements at five second intervals. The isolated USB port on the tester can also be used to output ‘live-time’ test results through a PC/laptop running the supplied Megger PowerDB Lite software package. Measurements may also be downloaded permanently via Bluetooth or USB to a laptop/ PC running Megger PowerDB Lite software package.

Ease of use was high on the agenda when Megger designed the S1-Series of insulation resistance testers. As such, operation is straightforward by using two rotary switches, whilst resistance, voltage, leakage current, capacitance, battery level and test time are displayed concurrently on a large, back-lit LCD display.

As the S1-1568 is primarily intended for operation within tough conditions; the unit is integrated within a dual case which not only protects the tester from bumps and drops, but it is also fire retardant. When the instrument lid is closed, the seal also offers moisture/dust ingress protection to IP65.

Why Test for insulation Resistance?

Electrical insulation can be affected over time by temperature, current flow, physical damage, chemical damage and environmental conditions to name a few. Both the reliability and the safety of an electrical installation can become an unwanted issue should insulation resistance values not be tested regularly and monitored.
