Megger SMRT46 3 Channel Relay Tester

The Megger SMRT46 3 Channel Relay Tester is a lightweight, multi-purpose, field portable test set that is capable of testing a wide variety of electro-mechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based protective relays, motor overload relays, and similar protective devices. Despite its small and lightweight stature, the SMRT46 provides high power and can be manually controlled with Megger’s stand-alone Smart Touch View Interface (STVI) handheld controller. The STVI has a large, easy-to-read, full-colour, high resolution, TFT LCD touch screen which allows the user to perform manual, steady-state, and dynamic testing quickly and easily using the manual test screen, as well as using built-in pre-set test routines. The STVI removes the need for a computer when testing virtually all types of relays, with menu and touch screen options provided to allow for the selection of desired test functions. Results can then be saved to the STVI’s internal memory.

The Megger SMRT46 is supplied with Relay Test Management Software (RTMS) for installing on a PC. The test system can be customised by adding the number of voltage/current, “VIGEN”, modules needed for specific test applications, with a maximum of three channels. Each current channel is rated for 32A at 200VA RMS continuous, and up to 60A at 319VA RMS for short durations. It also has a unique flat power curve from 4 to 32A that always ensures maximum compliance voltage to the load. With a maximum compliance voltage of 50V RMS per phase, two channels in series provide 100V to test high impedance relays. It delivers high test currents by paralleling three current channels to output up to 120A at 600VA for ground overcurrent relays, or up to 180A at 957VA for instantaneous overcurrent testing. Each voltage channel offers 0-300V variable output at 150VA, with automatic range switching under load. A flat power curve from 30 to 150V ensures maximum voltage output for demanding applications like panel relay testing or older impedance relays. When voltage channels are converted to current, a three-channel unit can produce six currents, which is ideal for testing three-phase differential relays, including those with harmonic restraint.

Manual Operation

Megger RTMS in conjunction with the Smart Touch View Interface (STVI) touch screen allows the user to perform manual, steady-state and dynamic testing quickly and easily. It has been ergonomically designed with a control knob and touch screen. The most significant feature of Megger RTMS software is the ability to provide the user with a simple, manual way to test, from simple overcurrent relay to the most complex relays manufactured today. The STVI controller eliminates the need for a computer when testing, with enhanced graphics, intuitive menu screens, and touch screen icon buttons provided for ease and speed.
