Megger VLF Sine Wave 45kV Tester

The Megger VLF Sine Wave 45 kV Tester is a versatile system that supports VLF and DC testing, while also enabling sheath testing and precise sheath fault pinpointing when used with the ESG NT2 step voltage probe. It is designed for testing and diagnosing medium‑voltage cables and offers advanced diagnostics with its optional integrated tan delta function, which provides accurate insight into cable ageing and insulation integrity.

The VLF Sine Wave 45 kV system automatically adjusts its test frequency based on cable length, ensuring consistent and efficient testing – even on long runs, including up to 25 km of 25 kV cables. It features a high test capacity of up to 10 μF, enabling testing of long cable sections (up to approximately 40 km at reduced frequency and voltage), and its continuous duty cycle allows users to complete demanding jobs without unnecessary interruptions. Leakage current measurement in both DC and VLF rectangular modes further enhances diagnostic capability.

The unit has a large 7‑inch colour touchscreen and with an intuitive onboard software that makes operation straightforward, without the need for an external computer, even for tan delta measurements. All test data is automatically analysed and stored in the device’s internal memory, with capacity for at least 1000 measurements. Results can be reviewed directly on the unit or exported via USB for further processing using MeggerBook Lite (also known as EasyProt in some regional bundles). Wireless data transfer to mobile devices is also supported as a forward‑looking feature

Integrated breakdown detection, automatic discharge of the test object, and earth‑loop monitoring work together to protect both the user and the equipment. The system delivers a stable, high‑quality test voltage for VLF sine wave, VLF rectangular, and DC test modes, meeting the stringent requirements of modern cable testing applications.

To expand the tester’s capability, users can pair the VLF Sine Wave 45 kV with the PDS 62‑SIN partial discharge module, enabling full PD diagnostics and transforming it into a comprehensive cable testing and diagnostic platform. Test performance can also be enhanced with the optional VLF CR‑40‑TB booster, increasing output capacity for more demanding applications and extending overall test versatility.
