Testo 835-H1 Infrared Thermometer

The Testo 835-H1 Infrared Thermometer is a useful combination of a non-contact thermometer and a surface moisture meter. The infrared sensor can measure temperature from -30˚C to 600˚C with an accuracy of ±1˚C/1% and resolution of 0.1˚C. The large 50:1 distance-to-spot ratio means that the measurement spot from a distance of 5m is just 10cm in diameter. The measurement point is highlighted by a four-point laser and an internal emissivity table allows accurate adjustment according to the surface under test.

An additional connection for type K thermocouples is particularly useful for performing accurate measurements on low-emissivity surfaces. The thermometer has a -50˚C to 600˚C measuring range and can work with a number of different probes including specialist type K thermocouples for measuring surface, air and liquid temperature.

In addition to its impressive temperature measurement capabilities, the Testo 835-H1 stands out thanks to its non-contact surface moisture calculation. This function is useful when checking for mould-friendly conditions or calculating proximity to dew point. It works simply by measuring humidity from 0 to 100% RH and comparing this to a surface temperature to produce an AW value between 0 and 1, with the critical mould-friendly level above 0.8.

The intuitive menu of the Testo 835-H1 is surprisingly easy to use thanks to clear icons and an ergonomic joystick navigator. Min/max and average readings are shown on the digital screen alongside the time, emissivity level and battery level whilst it is easy to toggle between temperature readings and humidity/AW values. Audible and visual alarm limits can be set for temperature in order to immediately alert the user to problematic readings.

The Testo 835-H1 has an internal memory for up to 200 readings alongside 20 emissivity steps and the readings can be sent to a PC and then analysed with the included ‘Easy Climate’ software package. Other standard accessories include a manufacturer’s calibration protocol and 3 AA batteries.
