EA Technology UltraTEV Plus² UTP2 (Choice of Kit)

The EA Technology UltraTEV Plus² is an easy-to-use, high-tech partial discharge instrument, designed to save the user valuable time and money. The UltraTEV can distinguish between partial discharge and general noise or interference, allowing for decisions to be made regarding infrastructure upgrades and repairs, which in turn can enhance safety. It will provide the user with numerical and audible ultrasonic readings, which allows for the analysis and classification of partial discharge. The UltraTEV2 is also compatible with a range of accessories which extend its capabilities.

Wi-Fi connectivity allows for survey results to be synchronised and analysed, making this tool a must-have for PD professionals. This, coupled with NFC capability, allows for the storage of asset data with programmable tags. These results can then be transferred onto a PC with a USB Cable or over Wi-Fi, emphasising the UltraTEV's dedication to easy asset inspection.

Partial Discharge Detection and Advanced Analytics

The UltraTEV Plus² has the ability to measure partial discharge in cables and cable accessories using a high frequency current transformer (HFCT) as well as established techniques for surface PD (Ultrasonic) detection and internal PD (TEV) detection on switchgear. The advanced analytics allow for PD measurements to be analysed more accurately.

The UltraTEV Plus² can be purchased as a part of three kits, which enhance the capabilities and allow for the surveying of the condition of substations. To meet the specific needs of the user, EA Technology offers a choice of three packs, which are the basic, essential and professional pack. The contents of these packs are listed below, with each one designed to test for partial discharge effectively.

  • Kit 1 (Basic Pack) is the standard kit for Switchgear condition assessment, and included headphones & battery chargers (UTP2KIT1)
  • Kit 2 (Essential Pack) comes with additional sensors and also includes a HFCT1-F50, allowing for quick and easy condition assessment of cables, plus an Ultrasonic Contact Probe (UTP2KIT2)
  • Kit 3 (Professional Pack) is supplied with an UltraDish, which can measure partial discharge in overhead assets (UTP2KIT3)

Phase Lock

Using EA Technology's UltraTEV Plus² with Wirless Phase Reference, a phase lock can be achieved in four different ways:

  • Direct power mains connections
  • E-Field - An internal sensor will detect and lock on to the stray electric fields within the substation
  • Rogowski Coil - Detecting AC signals in any conductor
  • Photo Sensor - A photo sensor on the front of the instrument will lock on to nearby mains frequency lighting such as a fluorescent fitting when there is a line of sight between the sensor and the light

The benefit of phaselocking means that partial discharge can be easily viewed as a seperate entity to noise, as shown in the below image.

The UltraTEV® Plus² Survey Process consists of four main parts, which is the input of substation data, the survey and capture of data, the transfer of asset information, and then analysis. This is easy and efficient, and can be performed by an unskilled user.
