Four new cameras from Testo are now available from Test-Meter! The Testo 865, 868, 871, and 872 Thermal Imaging Cameras share many useful common features whilst also offering handy additional options and varying thermal imaging specifications across the range. Priced from just £799 to £2199, these cameras offer brilliant value in terms of both image quality and practicality.

Clarity and Detail

All four thermal cameras share excellent thermal resolution compared with other cameras in the same price range. The entry-level model, the Testo 865, has a sensor with 160 x 120 pixels (19,800 total) and this increases to 320 x 240 pixels (76,800 total) for the top-of-the-range Testo 872. Coupled with fixed focus on every model, these high thermal resolutions allow the user to take thermal images and video with razor-sharp detail. Accuracy of ±2˚C or 2% is shared throughout the range and high levels of thermal sensitivity (120mK to 60mK) allow small temperature variations to be accurately portrayed on screen and within saved files. High-grade thermal capabilities such as these make each camera an incredibly versatile tool suitable for everything from identifying an over-heating component in a manufacturing plant to detecting mould early in domestic environments.

Additional Imaging Features

Aside from the impressive capabilities of the infrared thermal sensors on this range, each camera also has additional imaging features to make sure that thermal images are useful on a practical level. For example ScaleAssist and ɛ-Assist (for 868, 871 & 872) help ensure that images are useful and accurate by automatically setting an appropriate temperature-to-colour range and adjusting for emissivity. Hot and cold spot recognition instantly highlight the temperature extremes on screen whilst digital zoom (x2 or x4) on the 872 allows the user to focus in on any problematic or anomalous areas on screen. Finally, a digital camera on the three higher-spec models takes photographs in parallel with thermal images in order to help the user once he/she gets to the analysis stage. These features ensure that thermal images from these cameras always have maximum practical value.

Connectivity

One of the major features of each camera is the useful connectivity to a range of different devices. Firstly, a supplied USB cable allows different files - .jpg, .bmt - to be exported to PC where pro software can be used to analyse, report and edit the findings from the user’s inspection. All cameras other than the Testo 865 also give the user the option of wireless data transfer to a smartphone or tablet via WLAN. In order to access this, the user must download the Testo Thermography App from the App Store or Google Play but this is completely free and carries the twin advantages of allowing the smart device to act as a remote screen and opening up advanced analysis and reporting possibilities. Finally, the Testo 871 and 872 feature wireless Bluetooth communication with the Testo 605i Thermohygrometer and 770-3 Clamp Meter which supply quantitive information to go alongside thermal images, thus aiding assessment of electrical faults and air/moisture flow.

The thermal measurement capabilities of the Testo 865, 868, 871 and 872 are matched only by their capacity to portray heat patterns in a practical, simple way on screen. ScaleAssist, ɛ-Assist and hot/cold spot recognition mean that the user can garner maximum information with minimum effort. Furthermore, once images and video are saved to the cameras’ huge memory, advanced connectivity means that the analysis functions of the Testo Thermography App, PC software and other test equipment can be seamlessly combined to produce speedy, reliable results.
