Fluke ii500 Acoustic Imager

The Fluke ii500 Acoustic Imager is an ultrasonic-imaging camera which has been specifically designed for the detection and location of gas and vacuum leaks in a wide range of environments, such as factories and other industrial environments. Expertly designed for ease-of-use, it can be used without specialised training to isolate leak sound frequencies, and filter out background noise. This allows maintenance teams to identify and pinpoint leaks with ease and accuracy. Even during peak production periods, teams are able to accurately identify these leaks.

The Fluke ii500 has a 7-inch 1280 x 800 LCD, capacitive touchscreen display, which ensures use is simple and intuitive. The Fluke ii series lets technicians see sound as they scan hoses, fittings, and connections for leaks, with its in-built acoustic array of tiny microphones generating a spectrum of decibel levels per frequency. This frequency then generates a 'SoundMap', which is superimposed on a visual image. The SoundMap is then automatically adapted depending on the frequency level selected, ensuring that background noise is filtered out and that compressed gas leaks can be detected. The imager is also equipped with a new distance estimation algorithm, called the 'LeakQ Severity Index', which will indicate the severity of it using the LeakQ severity scale from 1-10.

Acoustic Imaging

The ii500 has been optimised to locate vacuum leaks, compressed air, gas and steam, thanks to an ultrasound frequency of 2 to 52kHz and a detection range of 50m. The ability to conduct maintenance whilst operations are still ongoing allows uptime to be maximises, which will lead to an increase in productivity and profitability.

Testing with SoundMap Technology

As previously mentioned, the Fluke ii500's miniature microphones are extremely sensitive to ultrasonic wavelengths, and generate a spectrum of decibel levels per frequency, which are then converted to a SoundMap.

Ergonomic and Easy-to-Use Design

With an adjustable hand and neck strap, as well as a large 7", 1280 x 800px LCD screen, full colour touch screen, the ii500 has been expertly designed to allow for intuitive and simple use. With a unique customisable frequency band filter, and customisable profiles for different inspection types, the ii500 has a plethora of features to ensure simple yet highly accurate testing and results. There is also an ability to annotate and tag recorded imagery, so that information can be retained and notes can be made on what actions should be taken next. A six hour operating time ensures use can continue throughout the day, with one button image capture available.

How the ii500 Reduces Downtime

The ii500 is able to reduce the down time sometimes associated with testing and acoustic imaging, with the following steps:

  • 1. Locate - Quickly and easily scan areas and pinpoint where unusual sounds are coming from – even those sounds out of range for human hearing
  • 2. Document - Take a screenshot of the point of interest. Then annotate and tag the photo to define follow-up action and urgency
  • 3. Share - Share the annotated screenshots with your team so they can respond and schedule maintenance.
  • 4. Repair - Investigate the pinpointed areas further during planned downtime to determine what the problem is and proactively fix it.
