Fluke ii915 Acoustic Imager

The Fluke ii915 Acoustic Imager is an ultrasonic imaging camera designed to detect and locate gas and vacuum leaks in a variety of environments, such as factories and industrial sites. Built for ease of use, it allows users to isolate the frequencies of leak sounds while filtering out background noise, eliminating the need for specialized training. This feature empowers maintenance teams to quickly and accurately identify leaks, even in the midst of busy production schedules.

The ii915 with MecQ has been described as a game-changer in the field, as it enables the efficient scanning of large areas, and the detection and documentation of potential issues for more targeted maintenance. With contactless scanning and advanced noise filtering, the ii915 with MecQ mode can ensure that clear imagery is provided, even in noisy environments. By allowing users to detect areas of concern early, the user can feel confident that they can avoid costly issues thanks to proactive maintenance and action.

Partial discharge can also be seen with the ii915, whether you are inspecting insulators, transformers, switch gears, or high-voltage powerlines. The sound of partial discharge is translated into visuals which can pinpoint the location.

The Fluke ii915 features a 7-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800, making it user-friendly and intuitive. This device enables technicians to visualize sound as they scan hoses, fittings, and connections for leaks. Its array of small microphones captures a wide range of decibel levels across different frequencies, generating a 'SoundMap' that overlays a visual image. This SoundMap automatically adjusts according to the selected frequency, effectively filtering out background noise to pinpoint compressed gas leaks. Additionally, the imager incorporates a new distance estimation algorithm called the 'LeakQ Severity Index,' which rates leak severity on a scale of 1 to 10. By providing insights into leak size, leak rate, and estimated leak cost, the ii915 enhances the capabilities of the ii500 and ii905.

With a detection range of up to 120 meters (393 feet) and a digital zoom of up to three times the normal image, the ii915 is an industry-leading acoustic imager. It features a larger storage capacity than the ii500, allowing for more results to be saved, and includes a built-in threaded hole for tripod connectivity—an enhancement not found on the ii500. Overall, the ii915 builds on the impressive capabilities of the ii500, offering additional space for storing results and the ability to create different profiles for various presets.

Acoustic Imaging

The ii915 is specially optimized for detecting vacuum leaks, compressed air, gas, and steam, operating within an ultrasound frequency range of 2 to 100 kHz and boasting a detection range of up to 120 meters. This functionality allows maintenance to be conducted without interrupting ongoing operations, maximizing uptime and contributing to greater productivity and profitability.

Testing with SoundMap Technology

As previously highlighted, the Fluke ii905's miniature microphones are highly sensitive to ultrasonic wavelengths, capturing a wide range of decibel levels across different frequencies. This information is then converted into a SoundMap, which effectively visualizes sound and enhances leak detection.

Ergonomic and Easy-to-Use Design

The ii915 is designed for intuitive operation, featuring an adjustable hand and neck strap alongside a large 7-inch, 1280 x 800 px full-color LCD touchscreen. It offers a customizable frequency band filter and profiles for various inspection types, equipping users with a broad range of features for precise testing and results. Users can annotate and tag recorded images to retain essential information and notes on necessary actions. With a six-hour operating time and one-button image capture, the ii500 is built for all-day use. Additionally, both the ii905 and ii915 models include an integrated tripod hole, facilitating easy mounting for capturing clear images and videos.

The ii915 minimizes downtime typically associated with testing and acoustic imaging through the following steps:

  • 1. Locate - Quickly and easily scan areas to identify the source of unusual sounds, including those beyond human hearing range.
  • 2. Document - Capture a screenshot of the area of interest, then annotate and tag the image to specify follow-up actions and urgency.
  • 3. Share - Distribute the annotated screenshots with your team, enabling them to respond and schedule maintenance effectively.
  • 4. Repair - Use planned downtime to further investigate the identified areas, determining the issues and proactively addressing them.
