Fluke ii905 Acoustic Imager

The Fluke ii905 Acoustic Imager is an ultrasonic imaging camera tailored for detecting and locating gas and vacuum leaks across various settings, including factories and industrial sites. Engineered for user-friendliness, it enables users to isolate leak sound frequencies and filter out background noise without the need for specialized training. This capability allows maintenance teams to easily and accurately identify leaks, even during busy production periods.

The Fluke ii905 features a 7-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800, making it easy and intuitive to operate. The ii series enables technicians to visualize sound while scanning hoses, fittings, and connections for leaks. Its built-in array of tiny microphones captures a range of decibel levels across frequencies, creating a 'SoundMap' that overlays a visual image. This SoundMap automatically adjusts based on the selected frequency, effectively filtering out background noise to detect compressed gas leaks. Additionally, the imager includes a new distance estimation algorithm known as the 'LeakQ Severity Index,' which rates leak severity on a scale of 1 to 10. By showing this, alongside the leak size, leak rate and estimated leak cost, the ii905 builds on top of the ii500.

With a detection range of up to 70 meters (230 feet) and a digital zoom up to three times the normal image, the ii905 is a industry-leading acoustic imager. It has a larger storage capacity than the ii500, with a larger memory and the ability to connect a tripod through an inbuilt threaded hole that is not included on the ii500 Acoustic Imager. Overall, the ii905 builds on top of the already impressive ii500, adding space for more results to be stored, as well as the ability to store different profiles for different presets.

Acoustic Imaging

The ii905 is specifically optimized for locating vacuum leaks, compressed air, gas, and steam, operating within an ultrasound frequency range of 2 to 65 kHz and featuring a detection range of up to 70 meters. This capability enables maintenance to be performed while operations continue, maximising uptime and contributing to increased productivity and profitability.

Testing with SoundMap Technology

As noted earlier, the Fluke ii905's miniature microphones are highly sensitive to ultrasonic wavelengths, capturing a range of decibel levels across frequencies. This information is then transformed into a SoundMap, allowing for effective visualisation of sound and aiding in leak detection.

Ergonomic and Easy-to-Use Design

The ii905 is designed for intuitive use, featuring an adjustable hand and neck strap along with a large 7-inch, 1280 x 800 px full-color LCD touchscreen. It includes a customizable frequency band filter and profiles for various inspection types, providing a wide range of features for accurate testing and results. Users can annotate and tag recorded images, retaining crucial information and notes on necessary actions. With a six-hour operating time and one-button image capture, the ii905 supports all-day use. Additionally, both the ii905 and ii915 models come with an integrated tripod hole, allowing for easy mounting to capture clear images and videos.

The ii905 minimizes downtime typically associated with testing and acoustic imaging through the following steps:

  • 1. Locate - Quickly and easily scan areas to identify the source of unusual sounds, including those beyond human hearing range.
  • 2. Document - Capture a screenshot of the area of interest, then annotate and tag the image to specify follow-up actions and urgency.
  • 3. Share - Distribute the annotated screenshots with your team, enabling them to respond and schedule maintenance effectively.
  • 4. Repair - Use planned downtime to further investigate the identified areas, determining the issues and proactively addressing them.
