Megger DLRO2X Low Resistance Ohmmeter

The Megger DLRO2X Hand-held 2A Low Resistance Ohmmeter is the latest offering from this trusted brand, acting as the bigger brother to the existing DLRO2. This latest model makes several significant improvements to the DLRO2’s specification, notably the addition of a Noise Rejection mode and Confidence Meter. The new model also offers a handful of other useful convenience features including a colour blind friendly visual test limit, compatibility with longer cable reels and integrated data storage.

From aircraft to wind turbines, the DLRO2X is the ideal solution for measuring low resistance values. With its handheld design and compatibility with long-line test leads, this unit is well suited to a vast array of environments. The sizeable screen which displays up to 3 values simultaneously in full colour is highly visible in low-light spaces due its bright backlight. Operational safety and peace of mind is ensured by the CAT III 600 V/CAT IV 300 V rating to IEC61010, in addition to protection from inadvertant connections up to 600V without blowing a fuse.

When testing in an environment with high electrical noise, results may may suffer from reduced reliability. The DLRO2X's Noise Rejection mode assists with this situation. In this test mode, the current is passed continuously and in one direction only. The instrument provides a stream of measurements into the integrated confidence meter, refining the measurement until a stable and accurate result is provided. The DLRO2X also brings the ability to store results directly to an internal memory. Folders can be created to store results for individual assets, with auto save or manual saving possible. Results can be transferred to USB data stick and to an external device (PC) for further analysis.

Test Modes

The DLRO2X Difference Meter function allows for repetitive measurements to be easily compared to reference measurements, showing percentage differences and actual values. The primary test modes include:

Normal resistance mode: User selects maximum test current range up to 2 A and the instrument auto ranges to suit measured resistance.

Fast/long leads test mode: Device settings are optimised for speed and use with very long test leads.

Inductive resistance mode: Tests with test current set to 1 A to speed up the charge time. Test current will be auto ranged up as inductance is charged. Rate of change is monitored, auto stopping when result is stable.

Noise rejection mode: For use in environments with high electrical noise, designed to reduce negative impact on results.

Application Potential

The Megger DLRO2X has a wide array of potential applications. Below, we’ve covered some of the common use cases for this product.

  • Aviation and wind turbine lightning protection testing
  • Rail and tram track joint and infrastructure testing
  • Marine cable laying applications and ship-to-shore bonding
  • Oil and gas pipeline welded joint testing within grounding systems
  • Cable manufacture quality control
  • Data centre installation of main panel, generator and UPS systems
  • Panel/switchgear manufacture
  • Robotics
  • Electrical infrastructure

In summary, the DLRO2X is a strong addition to the range, offering a handful of very useful improvements over the DLRO2. In particular, the Noise Rejection mode and Confidence Meter provide a very benefit to those who may experience reduced result reliability as a result of electrical noise. Integrated data storage is also a useful feature, improving the overall convenience and usability of the device when needing to spend longer periods in the field, completing multiple measurements.
