Megger MPAC208 Acoustic Camera
The Megger MPAC208 Acoustic Camera allows users to detect gas leaks, partial discharge and mechanical faults quickly from a safe distance – helping reduce unplanned downtime ad improving overall site safety. Its 208-channel MEMS microphone array works across a 2 kHz to 100 kHz frequency range, making it ideal for identifying ultrasonic emissions from compressed air leaks, electrical partial discharge, and early‑stage mechanical deterioration.
With a detection range from 0.5m to 200m, the MPAC208 is able to carry out safe inspections safe around high-voltage assets or hard-to-reach equipment. It can detect leak rates as low as 0.0019 l/min at 2.5m (5 Bar) to support early identification of energy loss, while built-in leak cost quantification helps prioritise repairs based on financial impact.
The instrument offers three straightforward core operating modes:
- Partial Discharge Mode: Captures PD activity and provides Phase Resolved Partial Discharge (PRPD) analysis, helping identify and differentiate between types of partial discharge during electrical inspections.
- Mechanical Mode: Supports predictive maintenance by detecting developing issues in bearings, valves, and rotating machinery – even in noisy industrial settings.
- Focus Mode: Reduces background interference, while SoundScan™ directional guidance points users toward the dominant sound source, even when it lies outside the visible frame. Ultrasound‑to‑audible conversion provides intuitive audio feedback to help confirm acoustic findings.
The MPAC208 includes a 13MP optical camera that overlays acoustic data onto clear visual images, making fault location easier to document and report. It comes with an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen which offers a 1920 x 1200 resolution, 700 nits brightness and 6x digital zoom for clear viewing on site.
Real-time time-domain graphs and acoustic spectrogram visualisation allow detailed signal analysis, helping distinguish between sound sources and track changes in frequency behaviour. For enhanced fault correlation, there are optional thermal imaging modules that provide side-by-side thermal and acoustic views. This makes it easier to relate temperature anomalies to acoustic events during inspections.
Built for daily industrial use, the MPAC208 carries an IP54 rating and operates in temperatures from -20°C to +50°C. It is powered by two smart Li-ion battery packs which provides up to 10 hours of total operating time (5 hours each under full load) and charges via USB-C or the supplied charging cradle.
It boasts an internal storage of 64GB plus an additional 64GB microSD card, with data export supported through Wi‑Fi, USB‑C flash drive, Bluetooth®, or microSD.
The MPAC208 can automatically verify each MEMS microphone to ensure correct operation, and it can be verified when paired with the optional Megger MPAC-V acoustic camera verifier for frequency and SPL checks. Acoustic and Thermal Analysis Software is included for comprehensive post-inspection analysis, reporting and data management.
