Megger TDR2050 Advanced Dual Channel Time Domain Reflectometer

As the most advanced device in the Megger TDR20XX range, the Megger TDR2050 Advanced Dual Channel Time Domain Reflectometer features excellent measurement and data display technology as well as other sophisticated features. It is primarily designed for locating faults on paired metal cables in power circuits up to 600V. With a minimum resolution of 0.1m and a maximum range of 20km, the device has both breadth and precision whilst adjustable output impedances (25, 50, 75, 100, 125Ω) and velocity factor (0.2 to 0.99) further enhance user choice.

The Megger TDR2050 auto-selects the most appropriate settings depending on range but there is a manual override for fine-tuning or specific adjustments. The navigation buttons and soft keys make the instrument very intuitive to use whilst dual cursors instantly show the distance between two points. The AutoFind feature automatically adjusts range and gain before finding the major events in a trace. Once again, manual override is available.

All results are shown in graph form on the customisable, colour, LCD screen which also offers trace comparison. Up to 100 tagged traces can be stored in the internal memory and recalled to the screen at any time. The Megger TDR2050 comes supplied with TraceXpert software which helps download data to a computer via USB and process that data afterwards.

The Megger TDR2050 is safety rated as Cat IV up to 600V so it can connect to potentially live circuits, thereby increasing range and versatility. Furthermore, the Step TDR function negates the Dead Zone effect which hides faults near the end of circuits. Another useful measurement feature unique to the TDR2050 is the distance dependent gain which compensates for diminished signal attenuation over long distances by gradually increasing the gain and therefore creates a more representative trace. Finally the FindEnd option can use TDR to locate the end of an object cable which is great way of quickly measuring cable length.

Therefore, the Megger TDR2050 constitutes a highly versatile time domain reflectometer thanks to its adjustable settings and ability to connect to potentially live circuits. The state-of-the-art measurement features ensure accuracy whilst the colour screen and TraceXpert software allow useful, usable analysis of all the readings to accurately locate problems in cables.
