Tramex Encounter MEX5 Moisture and Humidity Meter

The Tramex Encounter MEX5 Moisture and Humidity Meter is a dual-depth moisture meter that can be used for wood and a number of building materials including drywall, roofing, plaster, tile and masonry. With a built-in hygrometer for ambient conditions and psychrometric values. The MEX5 has an infrared surface thermometer and when used with external in-situ RH probes can provide in-situ equilibrium RH readings. Pin probes for wood, drywall and WME readings.

The Tramex MEX5 allows for over 500 wood species to be chosen, SG adjustment and automatic temperature correction for %MC measurement precision. Using the Tramex Meters App (available on Google Play and Apple App Store), the Tramex MEX5 allows for moisture test results to be visualised and Geotagged turning the data into moisture maps, reports and charts that can be shared with colleagues and customers. The MEX5 is suitable for a number of environments for professionals such as, in wood, wood flooring, building moisture inspections and water damage restoration industries.

Using non-destructively measuring the electrical impedance, the MEX5 detects and evaluates moisture conditions within a number of building materials. A low-frequency electrical signal is transmitted into the material via the electrodes in the base of the instrument. The signal strength varies in proportion to the amount of moisture in the material under test. The MEX5 will determine the strength of the current and will convert this to a moisture content value which is displayed on the 2.3-inch digital screen

Psychrometric's mode

Using the built-in hygrometer, the MEX5 measures the ambient relative humidity v(RH), ambient temperature (Ta, dew point temperature (Td) and humidity ratio (HR GPP, g/kg) of the environment. Measurements are shown at the bottom of the display for each mode or scale that is being used. Using this mode, the temperature value, surface temperature and Enthalpy value can all be viewed. For building materials such as concrete, wall and floor cavities and insulation, plug-in in-situ RH probes can be used for psychrometric values.

Wood pin-probe mode

When used alongside optional handheld or hammer probes, the MEX5 becomes a resistance-type meter and can measure the percentage moisture content (%MC) of wood, International wood standards or preprogrammed wood species can be selected allowing the wood temperature correction to be calculated automatically. Pin probe mode can also be used to determine Drywall %MC and WME (Wood Moisture Equivalent) readings for other materials

The MEX5 moisture meter features a duel depth measuring range with a deep depth penetration of up to 1 1/4" (30mm) and a shallow depth penetration of up to 3/8" (9mm). The dual depth readings of surface and core moisture can be compared allowing the elimination of the subtract when testing coverings. The Pinless moisture functionality of the MEX5 measures the moisture content of % of the wood from 0-30%. With optional pin probes for wood, wood by-products and drywall and relative humidity sensor probes for evaluating ambient conditions
